Annika It's the Aug 1! How is that possible? What was your favorite book you read in July? What was the worst?

message 2: by Annika (new)

Annika My favorite in July was The Fault in Our Stars with Iron House and Gone Girl coming in close behind. My least favorite was A Lady Cyclist's Guide to Kashgar which had such promise but fell flat for me.

Mary | 236 comments SO glad you loved The Fault in Our Stars, Annika! I'm embarrassedly still in Defending Jacob, so it's the only book I was reading in July. It's been a strange summer with very little reading time. I'll finish it soon (I really DO like it) and then move to Tatjana Soli's new one, The Forgetting Tree. I received an ARC of it from BookBrowse and will need to read it and post a review for them within a reasonable time. It's pretty long, too ... GULP.

Theresa The Age of Miracles was the best. One of my least favorites was All the Flowers in Shanghai: A Novel, which I would describe as clumsy historical fiction. The award for predictably disappointing goes to Lone Wolf.

Leslie | 95 comments Lol Theresa. Oh Jodi Piccoult. When will I stop...I won't. I did not read much in July but my favorite was Gone Girl. No least fave.

Leslie | 95 comments That's how I am Vickie. I need to make sure I will like them. I actually don't buy half as many books as I used to and even get favorite authors at the library fairly often. Then if I really liked it I'll find it for cheap to own. I think Gone Girl is pretty different from her other two. I enjoyed all three especially Dark Places. Gone Girl had more depth though. I did get it at the library myself but own the offer two. When I worked at Borders I rescued them from the Bargain Section. Lol

Gretchen (gkonkler5) My favorite was No and Me least favorite Grayson.

Laughing Out Loud!!! I am so glad I didn't hurr..."

Every time I read a Jodi Picoult now, I am thankful for the library, where I get all of my books. Otherwise, I would be weeping over the money spent.

Liz I think my favorite was The Dressmaker, but I also started reading Jan Karon Mitford series last month which I really enoyed - I must have, I've read 6-7 of them now.LOL! Of course, I was on vacation & had run out of the books I had with me. My least favorite was Love Creeps: A Novel which I didn't even finish.

The Age of Miracles was my best of July too!

Andrea | 67 comments The worst book I read in July is The night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian - I did not have a good book to list - a month of so,so,so books.

message 12: by Annika (new)

Annika That's so disappointing, Andrea!

message 13: by Carol (new)

Carol (actutor) I started a few, but had to return them to the library. I did read sleep towards heavenSleep Toward Heaven, and enjoyed it. I hope to get to Beautiful Ruins again.Beautiful Ruins again.

Andrea, I didn't get very far in that book before I abandoned it.

Kel | 34 comments Worst-"Gone Girl." I couldn't get past ch 1.
Best-"The False Princess," by Ellis O'Neill. I also read a lot of Anne Perry mysteries which were good.

Caroline (caro7) Worst: A Prayer for Owen Meany (don't hate me). I couldn't finish it, only read about 90 pages before I got sick of feeling like it was a chore and not a joy to read.

Best: Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion. (I only started this one in July; I finished it this month.) This was a five-star read for me. Really, really interesting, and EXCELLENT investigative reporting on the part of the author. That could not have been easy AT ALL! I applaud her!

I didn't read anything I really loved in July (not counting Inside Scientology). Actually, about half, or maybe more, of the books I've read this year have been duds. :(
