Let me know how you find it.

I am really glad I bought this book. It will be great for referring to when looking for a good mystery. He mentions a number of titles and authors that are excellent but neglected.

I have downloaded several of his recommendations on to my Kindle but I haven't read them yet. One of the authors that he mentions quite frequently is E.R. Punshon who wrote the Bobby Owens series. I am up to the 12th book in that series and I really like it.

Thanks. I will check out Punshon.

I love Deborah Crombie. The most recent one is superb.

Welcome Angela! This group isn’t overly active compared to others but hopefully you can help change that.
A woman in my local book club group recommended MacBride's books to me, she raved his books. I bought Cold Granite but still haven’t read it. Thanks for the reminder, i'll try to fit it in around Christmas:)
Cheers & happy reading

Thanks for the welcome Icewineanne. No worries if it isn't too active compared to others. I just like to see what everyone is reading and recommending in this genre, get opinions, etc.
You do need to start the Logan MacRae series by Stuart MacBride at the beginning, you get such good growth character that way and can understand where the main character is 'coming from'. The stories can be grim, but they have dark humour and a good mystery as well, and the murders are never clear cut or solved in one hit, with the cops coming up against dead ends at times. Then you have the cast and their quirks. I just love it. His books are what really set me on the path of this genre. I'd read a couple before, but this series? In my opinion - awesome.
Gee, not gushing much, am I? LOL

This book has received so many excellent reviews. I’m super excited & really hope it lives up to all the raves :D

Looking forward to that! I've read the first 3 of Mo Hayder - a lot more grim than MacBride and with no humour, but still a good read.

I first read this when it came out 30 years ago. Loved it back then. I remembered the characters but not the mystery. The sign of a good book is that the ending still had the ability to surprised me.

Currently I am reading Murder MostiMalicious..it is the first in the series and I am enjoying it. Starting also The Harvest Man..this is book 4 in the series...it has jus taken me a while to get to it under my huhe pike of books!!!

I really enjoy the Rutledge series books also Michell. Your book is #18 - wow!
And you’re a lot further into the series than i am. My next book will be #7 - A Cold Treachery.
Have you read any of the Bess Crawford series?

I read The Black Country (#2 of Scotland Yard Murder Squad) awhile ago. It was ok - i gave it 3 stars - but haven’t read any of the other books in the series. Perhaps # 2 was just a weaker book. How are the other books in this series Catherine?
Haven't read any of the lady's maid series. Are they similar to the Rosalind Thorne mysteries by Darcie Wilde?

The Alex Grecian series - Scotland Yard Murder Squad - was a disappointment and a real downer. I enjoyed the first book - The Yard - but The Black Country was not nearly so good and the following books were terrible. Don't waste your time.

I liked the Elizabeth George books until What Came Before He Shot Her. That one and the books after it have been just terrible. I don't know what happened to her. I used to buy them in hardcover; now I don't even check them out from the library.

Because i own it, I’ll read it eventually. It's always disappointing when a new author writes a terrific 1st book & then can’t follow it up.
Thanks for the heads up Jean!

Just One Evil Act was the last one I read, and it took will power to finish it. The characters' actions were totally unbelievable. I don't plan to try any others by her.

Looking forward to starting the Maggie Hope series. I've heard so many positive things about it from my book club.
Happy reading Catherine!

I found it (as I do very often) by accident meanderinf through the bookshop!! I am partial to books that take place in Europe and Asia. :)

Yes, I have read the first eight books in that series. They are also very good. If you like Todd you should give them a try as well.
