I describe this book as a meander, which seems fitting since much of the story takes place on a river.
I was captivated from the start, and enjoyed the stories of the people met along the way.
The author pulled in historical elements that painted a better pictures of the harshness of the times.

I was not drawn in enough that I couldn’t put the book down yet my curiosity kept me coming back for more. I really enjoyed the way the author would describe scenes and add elements to ponder.

The only downside was the last 15-20 pages as the author wrapped up loose ends. Some felt a little far out.
