"Its convenient that this book is broken into three distinct parts cause it makes it easier to say the parts I didn't like as they all took place in the middle part.

I never found myself particularly emotionally involved, save for the last few chapters, but often intrigued.

I think it's at its best as a political boardroom drama. Whether the board room is in a castle (part 1) or a cave (part 3) the tension between the opposing views on planetary sovereignty are effective! Walking through the desert (part 2) less so.

I went in fairly fresh. I've never seen any of the adaptations (or documentaries about adaptations) and am only loosely aware of Herbert's greater world through cultural osmosis and being around nerds for most of my life despite in fact not being one myself.

Will read Messiah eventually I'm sure but as I sit writing this review making an order of fries last as long as I can while I kill time before band practice I really wish I brought my next book with me."
