The Volkswagen-sized Hornets Nest by Steven Scott Wallace
"Full disclosure: Steven was a student of mine in his junior high days. Wilderville was just down the road from where I was living at the time of the book. Chuck Peil and I were fellow teachers and friends. The people Wallace mentions in the book were also students of mine. All that is to say, it was just fun to read about some local history from a local boy.

Steve Wallace has a vivid imagination, and he writes well. Yes, he embellishes the moments, exaggerates at times, and uses hyperbole at will, but the inspirations for his stories spring from actual events in his life. He was obviously a boy living a boy’s life in rural Southern Oregon. Great, too bad more kids didn’t have that opportunity. Hornets nests and tree forts and Bigfoot and all that are part of growing up in this area. However, to make interesting stories for public consumption takes a bit of genius, and the author displays that for us in this book.

It’s a glimpse of a particular place and time through the eyes of a imaginative person reflecting on his childhood. I enjoyed the book and had a few chuckles. You will too, guaranteed.

The Volkswagen-sized Hornets Nest by Steven Scott Wallace
"These were fun short stories - the kindle edition includes all 4 volumes, which can be read in a few hours total. The writing isn’t great, but the story telling is really funny. All about growing up in a small town and the trouble he and his friends got in to - highly embellished, but just like any boy would talk a story. I’d recommend this for just a fun, nonsense read. Great for children too. "
