This was my first read by this author and it won't be my last. I couldn't put this book down. All the characters were very realistic and interesting. Have already ordered another of her books to read. ]]>

Not enough of the octopus and Cameron's constant self pity, woe is me whining was irritating. Also a minor plot error far into the book that annoyed me. What really ruined the book for me though was a very brief scene where Tova the MFC goes to dinner at a friend's house and afterwards he is occupied in an arguement in the other room with Cameron so Tova decides to do the dishes. She looks around the counter for a dishrag or sponge and not finding one looks under the sink and comes up with an old Grateful Dead t-shirt she uses. EWWW! How does she know he hadn't been using that to wipe off the toilet seat or something equally gross???? What so-called professional cleaner would use an unknown item like that to wash dishes and wipe kitchen counters and table. I can't get the nastiness of that image out of my mind. ]]>

I DNF'd this book early on but then did manage to pick it up a couple weeks later and finish it. A total waste of time and money. THE MMC was totally physically unappealing and did very little the first half or so of the book other than slump on his throne and play with little toys he magicked into existance. The MFC was equally uninteresting and did little the first half of the book other than stomp around and fix tea and meals for the MMC. The descriptions of the hearts over and over (being harvested from people and sloshing in jars) was sickening. The most lovable and interesting character in the book was the talking cat. I only finished the book to find out what happened to him. ]]>

My second book by this author who has become one of my favorite mystery/thriller writers. I was convinced I'd guessed who the killer was about halfway through the book but was I ever wrong. ]]>
