The cast, the plot, and the conflict were all magical; and I love how easily she allows her cast to grow past fantasy's golden ages of 13-25. Whenever I want to promise myself that I can go on an adventure, no matter how old I get, I pick up one of her books--there's always one or two spinsters who use their wits to save the day.

This book didn't disappoint. It's a dark, imaginative retelling, and Hester and her friends were so real that I wanted to know them personally. (Not to mention, Willard was truly a prince among butlers, and I am a sucker for butlers.) Kingfisher blended all my favorite elements from the other works I've read--fairytale twists, engaging protagonists, and a splash of horror. If I were to only have one of her books on my shelf, or if I were to recommend one of her stories to anyone, this would be it."
