I read Icebreaker last year and did not enjoy myself, but noted that I'd be interested in reading more from this author in the future. Elizabeth loved Icebreaker, so I allowed Wildfire to be chosen as an interesting book club pick for June.

Was it interesting? Review to come post-Book Club :) ]]>

June 2025 audiobook reread: It's my goal this year to reread the first ten books and catch up to the rest of the series! Almost there...

I've been really looking forward to Ash and Janvier's book, as we get little chuckles as Janvier leads Ash on a merry charge around the continent in courtship (she doesn't know that yet). I'm leaving my four star rating from past reads... but this time, unfortunately I would give it a 3.5.

Although we got little glimpses at the duo across the other books, I was really missing the build-up that happened behind the scenes we didn't get to see. They've been in a holding pattern of will-they, won't-they, who-breaks-first for a while (years?) and this book started with the grim acceptance that they love each other, but there's no future for them, and working through that alongside their Guild case.

I wanted to see more of the courtship, the flirting and the falling, rather than working out how they can make their love work within their current realities (even though I loved that too). I went back and scanned the novellas's I'm not including in my series reread and didn't note anything on Ash/Janvi either.

That said... they're super fun together and I enjoyed watching them play around :) I am curious why Janvier kept running away from the angels, and Ash had to give chase? I'm assuming it was all only so she could run, but he has a really good reputation among immortals as immutable and loyal.... which I don't think would track with a runner. I want the inside scoop! Were they pretending to be mad as they sent a hunter after his errant-vampire-self???

I HAVE QUESTIONS!! But I also cried a lot there at the end :( Nalini can make me love anything. Worry not, a 3.5 star on a Nalini book is still five stars and leagues better than any other <3 ]]>

3.5 stars!

I love a fake-dating plot, and fake-dating-for-the-holidays just perfectly hit the spot :) I recommend fall/winter reading!

Basically Abbi is a waitress at the wing place on campus, where the hockey team celebrates at least four times a week. Weston leads this hockey team, and also put up a flier offering himself as a Thanksgiving date slash family buffer, in exchange for a good home cooked meal (and so he doesn't have to go home to his own family). Abbi has crushed on Weston for a while and snipes the flier before anyone else can see..... and the rest is history!!

I loved this story, it was the perfect palette cleanser between going from steamrolling through a political urban fantasy series, and switching to my book clubs I'm lowkey dreading reading.

This story didn't do anything unique here, but it was witty, full of banter and laughter, and I enjoyed the ride :) When they started moaning and squeaking the bed (fully clothed) to convince his brother they were dating... I died!!! Plus there was a flu scene!! (I love when one of the characters becomes a short-term caretaker, sue me LOL)

10/10 recommend this unproblematic, fun and fairly quick read on Kindle Unlimited :)

Tropes: fake dating, fake-dating-to-friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, hockey romance, sports romance, college, unrequited love, caretaking during the flu, complicated family relationships, fun friends, medical student

TW: Post-Grad Job Hunt. Goddamn I got flash-backs.

5.31.25 audiobook reread: It's my goal this year to reread the first eight books and catch up to the rest of the series!

Nassir, Ashwini and Janvier's actions during the battle made me LAUGH - they're just out there doing what they do best, sowing chaos and discord across enemy lines. I can't wait to reread Ash/Janvier's book next to get the behind-the-scenes scoop of the chaos trio (I forget what they called it, Shadow Shenanigans or something like that).

This book takes us back to Elena and Raphael after deviating to explore Jason and Mahiya's relationship in the last book, and follows the political ramifications of continuing to stand against Lijuan, whose goodwill for Raphael is fast running out in the face of her bloodlust. Again and most starkly, we see Raphael in his immortal arrogance faced with impossible choices to keep his people safe.... against Elena with her mortal heart and boundaries, unwilling to let her human friends get swept up in immortal games. While Elena's values haven't changed, they have reprioritized in the face of war, signaling a step away from her previous life, something Elena hasn't fully come to grips with yet.

However, I did love seeing Raphael and Elena work together as a pair, a true Archangel + Consort duo, protecting their territory against the world. I believe it's this book where, in all my rereads, I tire of Elena/Raphael and just want to explore the rest of the Seven.... I'm not quite there yet, and am still enjoying their relationship evolution running parallel to threat of war and the growth + relationship of the rest of their Seven :)

What I'm most looking forward to and the reason for my reread? Aodhan and Illium. This is where it begins :,) Eight more books and I'll finally get my hands on them... (Titus got a book first, seriously???) although every mention of Illium's possible ascension makes my blood run cold. Noooo! no! I want Bluebell to stay :,,,,)

I'm slowing down a bit on my reread because I don't want to steamroll through all these books, eventually losing interest and not catching up on the series. Taking a small break to read my book club books and then I'll be back!! ]]>

5.28.25 reread via audiobook: My 2025 Goal is to reread the first eight books and then push on to finally catch-up with the rest!!

Lordt I looove this series! In this book three, the focus is really on Elena and Raphael's relationship as they navigate his immortal arrogance and her mortal boundaries, and as she adjusts to her new life with wings. She's no longer just a guild hunter, Hunter-Borne and one of the fiercest mortal warriors of her time, but a baby-angel still settling into her immortality, learning her wings and a consort to an archangel; her loyalties may not have changed, but they have re-prioritized.

I do highly enjoy watching an established couple work through their evolving relationship, fighting for their HEA. So many stories end with the "I do" or "I love you" or "sure yeah let's date," but the biggest battle and toughest hurtles in relationships (as we know) is later..., when love isn't enough and you have choose each other every day, fighting for your relationship. I love this series in particular because we see Elena and Raphael (a true powerful immortal leader) working through their boundaries together and become partners, even while other romances flourish within their Seven.

One of my favorite aspects of this series is how political and action-packed it is, while still showcasing a flawless romance parallel to an evolving world. Such a good urban fantasy series with all the elements to love <3

New to Nalini Singh? Go check out her Psy-Changeling series first, then come back to this one! ]]>
