Time's Undoing by Cheryl A. Head
"Twin timelines. A black carpenter trying to make a home and life for his family in a time when any success by a man of color was viewed as an attack on less talented, angry white men, and his great grand daughter, who is a journalist working for the Free Press and writing about Black Lives matter.

Both of these story lines are fascinating, but the one nitpick I have with the book is that the mood of the two don't match well. The journalist has a pretty good life, gets the stereotypical romanic love interest early on, but never achieves the depth and reailty of her great grandfather's story (a different narrator) I might have viewed it differently if I'd read it in print or eBook, but I listened to the audio and there was a bit of disconnect.

That said, the story is facsinating. The settings feel real and painful and important, and the overall message of the book is solid. Very happy to have spotted this on a social media link.

The Bone Key by Mary Rajotte
"What an amazing book. I've been lucky enough to read this prior to the release and Mary Rajotte has woven a powerful tale. The authority, the magic, the grand weirdness, the emotion—it's a rollercoaster ride, and I could NOT put it down. And what a great cover. "
