by Gore Vidal

I am late to the party, however I don’t see the correlation between Cavites and so-called deplorable’s who support President Trump.
I definitely think Vidal was talking about politics as well as religion. I think there are a great many people that worship the State, which is fascism.
I do agree with you that the written word has power. Especially editing. So I guess it’s where your ideologies lay. But I don’t think the majority of people that support Trump are ignorant cultists. I think it’s a mixture of people that wanted someone that wasn’t a career politician, an outsider. It’s also about fear. Michael Crichton’s “State of Fear spells it out fairly well.
Let’s all keep reading! ]]>

This is the first Gore Vidal book I’ve ever read. I absolutely love his writing style, his use of the language and prose. Maybe I mean syntax? There is quite a dystopian vision in this story. I think he wrote this during a time of great fear of communism. He basically tells us a story of how with the right marketing, the right media and a handful of motivated people with good intentions but selfish reasons, you could create a global phenomenon, especially since the message is that death is not to be feared, but actually preferable to life. Seems absurd, right? The author uses elements of some other totalitarian dystopian novels, but the protagonist is wary of the possibility this could spiral out of control, leading to an established organization that would then consume government and infect even the most devout believers of other faiths. He is definitely taking a stab at organized religion as the man who begins this movement does so because of his hypnotic affect on people he speaks to in person. This book is worth your time if you’re a fan of similar ideas in stories. ]]>

I have to say most Star Trek books I’ve read have been a lot better than this one. It certainly lacked depth, but it is fun to read about Kirk and his Academy days. It was a quick read, I’m still probably gonna read the next two books in this three part series. ]]>
