Curious book, interesting plot and structure. Felt like it was longer than needed. Maybe missed why it’s so highly rated.

Enjoyed the linguist asides - made me remember Peggy Mohan’s book ]]>

Wasn’t a fan. Similar narrative structure to The Overstory, which was a bit boring. wasn’t as compelled by the setting, nor did I get the characters (some of it felt so tropey - didn’t even get the angst between the two leads)

Only saving grace was the evocative descriptions of ocean life. Although there are better books that do justice to that (An Immense World, Under the White Sky) ]]>

Fabulous. Bruno’s pontificating and Sadie’s reactions to it were probably the highlight, and Sadie-Vito’s relationship is hilarious. Bit bored of ecoterrorism (for whatever reason, I feel like I’ve read / watched a bunch of these recently - Birnam Wood, How to blow up a pipeline). Ending was a bit too high falutin for my liking, but the plot wasn’t the primary driver for me in any case

Going to read more of Rachel Kushner and using the “know others salt and know your own more. ]]>
