Still Waters by Viveca Sten
"It was boring in the overall. Only in the last 20% it picked up. I loved the descriptions of the island in the first chapters, but at some point I got exhausted of reading description after description of every house, roof, gate, window in the island. It is another example of a novel that would have been a 4 stars if it had only 200 pages. "

Still Waters by Viveca Sten
"I found this novel very boring. Deaths were happening, and I found it difficult to care. The narrator Angela Dawe, was about as monotonous as you could possibly think, and only made the audiobook worse, imo. I stopped after the third death, at about most of the way thru chapter 34, and I cannot possibly feel any better by jettisoning this novel to the wayside.
2 stars, if that. Not recommended."

THE WELCOMING by Nora Roberts
"This wasn’t quite up to Nora’s usual standards but it was still an enjoyable read nonetheless. I thought the idea was really interesting and wish it had been expanded on more, it felt like everything happened so fast and the story was in a rush to be over. And because of that I didn’t get a chance to connect with any of the characters which very much affected my enjoyment of the story. It’s much easier to get into a story when you genuinely care about the characters and what happens to them! "

Very disappointed. In a small town rife with local grudges and domestic feuds there are disappearances and murders. As I read though, the book focused more on the detective who recently returned from the big city. Yet, she acts like she knows nothing of the people. That was very confusing. Then we have a little girl that disappears and the ending didn't really answer what happened. It was a struggle to finish because the supposed twists and turns, great characters, and psychological tension (the blurb for the book) never really happened. ]]>

The synopsis says it all. Four women (who were recruited at a young age) are assassins. They've been doing this their whole life. Now in their 60s and looking forward to retirement and a pension, they are now the hunted instead of the hunter. I enjoyed the book very much but a few little things held me back from a 5 star rating. One key item was money. They all claim that they have no money (except one who still has a credit card). How are they able to buy all the things they do? Must have been one heck of credit limit. And, normally I think a book has been padded too much. In this case I think it could have been fleshed out more. Still, very entertaining, especially for every woman who has been treated as less because of her age. ]]>

I decided to reread the first book in the series as it’s been over 10 years. I found I like it better this time. Artemis, a 12 year old genius, wants to restore the family money by stealing from the fairies. I wasn’t as annoyed by the boy genius and laughed a few times at some of what went down. My favorite is still Munch Diggums. ]]>

Glad to know I wasn’t the only one bored with this full length novel. Murderbot novellas work much better. For some reason the author padded in too many details that just weren’t necessary. Thankfully Murderbot is as snarky as ever which kept me reading through to the end. ]]>
