I wish I could rate this higher because overall I did sort of enjoy the story, but the writing really took a lot away from it.
There's a lot of inconsistencies and odd descriptions or behaviors which was super annoying.
I liked a lot of the characters, the idea of the story. Some of the stuff got redundant and annoying, like Ender's instant hate and constant disparaging.
The empathic stuff was kind of silly to me. She doesn't actually use it at all because it just overwhelms her and she instantly gets a headache and passes out.

I also got super annoyed with the damsel in distress thing. The author worked so hard to make her a 'survivor '. She's tough, scarred and a good fighter, yet as soon as a blade cuts her she instantly crumples to the ground and passes out in pain.
It's just a bit... ridiculous, and would have been so much better and less eye roll worthy with more editing.

I think I will try book two, just because I hate a cliff hanger and I'm super desperate for a passable RH now that I've just finished the Cursed legacies books. Hopefully it will be better written. ]]>

I didn't like much about this book except the idea of it.
The writing needs work, I barely made it through the first chapter and the words are already so repetitive I'm annoyed.
Everyone is described so bright and colourful it's hard for me to take any of them seriously. The instant nicknames and come ons after they barged in rudely and interrupted a meeting, and have a audience, just struck me as dumb.
Honestly the beginning of a book should be intriguing, it should pull you in. You shouldn't dislike all of the mmcs right off the bat and be completely lost to what's happening.
First we get some kind of info dump write up right off the bat, then all of these references to events that have happened previously. The FMC is 400 years old and I feel like this is book 3 of her story, instead of book 1.

It all just didn't work for me at all. ]]>

this book is written very strangely. it's super hard to follow. Characters are introduced like we're supposed to know who they are. There's little world building and I found the descriptions of the goings on very confusing. Some scenes don't make any sense at all, especially when there's any kind of violence happening.
I also really don't understand why there's random Portuguese in there, with footnotes of what's being said at the end of the chapter.
The entire thing was strange and needs some editing. ]]>

So I was listening to the audiobook of this. I may try to read it where I can just skim over the annoying stuff, but I couldn't handle listening to every single thing. First of all, it was all going pretty good. I liked it, I was enjoying the idea and curious what would happen.

Then the love interest kidnaps her, and within 5 minutes of waking up she's making out with him. Then the other guy comes in all scary like and berates her and I was just done. It's annoying and ridiculous.
Now, if I could skim over some of this I might come out the other end enjoying the book again, but not on an audiobook when I'm driving and can't skip anything. ]]>

This book needs some heavy heavy editing. I did like the story line, but I just can't get over the terrible writing.
Grammar errors, huge inconsistencies, very hard to follow descriptions and the cincher for the DNF, interchangeably using wolf and coyote. They are not the same and this was just... Inexcusable in a paranormal type book for me. ]]>

So, I only made it like, 7% into this book.
I actually had it on my to read shelf, and I really enjoyed the God's series by these authors so I was looking forward to it.

I just... Hate it. Granted I didn't get very far in but let me just explain-
The FMC, I'm not sure if we just didn't get her name or if I just can't recall it, has been running. Running and self defense and maybe something about guns?
Basically something happened to her awhile back and she made all of these additions to her life in order to avoid being a victim ever again. Okay cool, I can get behind that.
She's been noticing that she's getting insanely fast.. Running all her miles very quickly and barely winded. Also, her hair and skin looks great, amazingly so. Also, she's super thirsty and water just doesn't quench it. Also... Alcohol is barely working to get her buzzed. So weird. Oh well, moving on.

Literally, all of these changes and she doesn't draw any conclusions, test anything, question anything.
So... Fine. She's dumb, okay.
Now, her 'best friend' is a complete bimbo ditz. For real, FMC makes some comment at one point about checking the peroxide she uses (cause she's a dumb blonde, get it?)

The girls that she doesn't like are bitches, plastic, fake, annoying squealing things that also have peroxide hair.

FMC gets grabbed by one of the Ash. Does she put her self defense she's spent the last year cultivating into action? She does not. She says "what the crap! Let go" and proceeds to struggle ineffectually.

She goes to a bar and proceeds to try and get sloshed. Not really the behavior of someone trying so desperately not to be a defenceless victim again.

I just didn't like it at all. The premise could have been interesting, but the characters, the stereotyping and the discrimination was just icky to me. ]]>
