Terribly disappointing. Strange, stilted English destroyed the flow of reading. The returning characters were unrecognizable. The plot was random and incomplete. And there's a cliffhanger, so they're expecting to inflict another of these on us. ]]>

Well! This one rocked!

I always enjoy Harry Dresden when he gets going. He's got a sense of humor about his own situation. It seems to get more biting as things get harder for him, and he gets off some great one-liners. In this one, he's got plenty to do.

First, he brings a bad foe against himself and the werewolves. Then, Morgan shows up at his door hiding out from the White Council. Harry's investigation brings him into a disagreement with the White Court of the vampires. All three things become major headaches.

I love the characterizations in these books, and this one is no exception. In addition to the aforementioned werewolves led by Will (please don't call me Billy), we have the White Court vampires, led by Thomas's sister, Thomas himself, and various family members. The council and the wardens are all represented. My favorite part of Harry's support team is Toot Toot with his cadre of tiny fairies who do scouting, and anything else they're asked to do, in exchange for pizza. There's a funny scene of negotiating when Harry asks for Toot to bring in more help. The pizza payment is duly upped and all is well. My favorite new character here is a senior member of the White Council we haven't seen in action before. Listens to Wind is an indigenous man who gets involved in helping with the big bad that attacked Harry and the wolves, and later the entire White Court at their palace.

Anyway, if you like these, this one is lots of fun. ]]>

The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde
"I have a dream: if I ever discover a time machine, I’ll kidnap Oscar Wilde and Aaron Sorkin, lock them in a room, and supply enough cocaine to give an elephant a heart attack. What emerges will be the most unhinged, dazzling torrent of dialogue the world has ever seen.
