Poppy, Marcus, Azumi, Dash and Dylan are invited to Lakespur for different reasons, all of which turn out to be lies as they end up trapped inside - but seeking answers to their imprisonment means facing the masked children haunting the halls, as well as trusting one another with their darkest secrets. Poblocki offers young readers a sufficiently spooky tale with a somewhat likable cast, though its bland setting and weak twists leave little impact. Why were these five kids drawn to Lakespur...?

Mafi brings teens a decently paced dystopian romance, though its somewhat affable cast is sadly weighed down by lackluster worldbuilding and overreliance on metaphorical prose. Will there ever be a chance for Juliette to live without harming others?
