Hubbard Quinn gave 3 stars to How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of "Intangibles" in Business (Hardcover) by Douglas W. Hubbard
I finished the cybersecurity sequel, which I think is enough overlap that I'm marking this read.

Most books are publicity stunts, and should be blog posts in terms of actual communication. This is worse, because it's a sales pitch for a consultancy. Nevertheless, I recommend it a lot! (I read about a third of it four years ago and left it sit). It's a killer palette cleanser for your friends that are ontologically opposed to numbers.

But just stick with the lukeprog review ]]>

This was fun! I want to write "Common Sense 2" that openly discusses how to reason about a state made by migrants as opposed to people who were there before, Paine doesn't speak of preexisting indigenous folks but I kinda suspect he wasn't too impressed with arguments that it's morally better to stay out of their hair (I really don't know), though he makes himself a target for this critique because he pontificates about how awesome he and his revolution friends are. The second half would just plagiarize "Should We Vote On Values But Bet On Beliefs" by Robin Hanson, since I don't think that paper can be beat in terms of building an optimal government.

" is the popery of " is going to be my new thing when I'm upset with something. "this table is the popery of furniture" (stubbed toe). "this banh mi is the popery of takeout" (I showed up too early and now I have to wait). "javascript is the popery of programming languages" (javascript). ]]>
