I had never read The Handmaid's Tale and nor seen the movie, but this audiobook was available at the public library, so I checked it out.

I classified the book at "science-fiction" even though it doesn't involve any of the usual future technological advances. My reason is that it is a story of an artificial culture, manufactured by people trying to create a better society, similar to Brave New World or Fahrenheit 451 .

Ordinary Grace is not an ordinary mystery, though it contains a mystery that gets solved by the end. Unlike some character driven mysteries, where the mystery is incidental to getting acquainted with the main characters that will populate the series (such as Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache mysteries), the mystery is central to the emotions and emotional and spiritual development of the central characters.
