This was my first time reading a complete work of Ryle and it was a clear indicator why some go so far as to name their kids after him. It is a book that is overflowing with wisdom and biblically saturated exhortation and application from beginning to end.
I was struck at how Ryle repeatedly addressed the demonic forces that need to be fought against in young men’s lives, as well as how he stressed the need for godly habits.

This is a book that will be a dramatic paradigm shift for most evangelicals that read it. This is because it is not at all a Western worldview but one that is ancient near east. Which despite having some value if academia, still is more formulated by Western culture and context.
