The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson

Seth’s first review of the year

it was amazing
Equal parts laughs and tears. I’m hoping this becomes an annual read for my family. You try reading it without pausing to laugh (or cry).

If you haven’t had a chance to see the play, you’re missing out!

Coraline by Neil Gaiman

Seth’s last review of the year

really liked it
Cecilia and I read this together one night a week over the course of a month or so. It was quite good for a number of reasons. First, Coraline directly experiences the consequence of complaining which is to have the thing about which you were complaining taken away. Second, it has all the right amount of tension and fright without being overpowering. Third, Coraline is a great feminine hero. She is unflappable, determined, and outwits her enemies ...more
