My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine

PL’s first review of the year

it was ok
It’s a quick and easy read but now that I have read this I don’t understand the hype. I love vampires as much as anyone but just having a vampire character doesn’t make a book good. So many moments took me completely out of the narrative and that made me sad.

PL’s last review of the year

it was amazing
This was a brilliant book. A reimagining of Huckleberry Finn from Jim’s point of view.
I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it. There are passages of song and also the deft way the story delineates between how slaves talk amongst themselves and how they talk to non-slaves that really came through with the audio.

Such a thoughtful and thought provoking book. It makes me want to go back and read Huckleberry Finn again, with this versio
