The anti-capitalist off the grid teens aspect was oversold and barely there. It was angsty. Queer diversity was great and family support lovely to see. Public school is the villain here, which as a middle school librarian I can totally get behind, but there was much hope or vision for a better future.
Cute baking mystery. Hard to find ways to make a good mystery in the age of cell phones. This one does it by semi-realistically creating reasons why kids can’t use cell phones (during competition) and why cell/wifi wouldn’t work for a specific time. I prefer a mystery that uses the ubiquitous phones, but this was good too. Audiobook narrators were excellent.
