Visceral. Literally.
I expected this exploration of grief and family dynamics to be wrapped in a semi-fantastical whale story. Instead it was wrapped in a brutally physical and biologically graphic whale story.
It's a worthwhile tale of a teenager coming to grips with his dead father. The surprise was that the realism brings it closer to body horror than the Lovecraftian horror you might expect.
