It was interesting to learn what happened after the escape from Chapterhouse, but the chapters in the first part of the book were so short that they felt more like reading through a collection of disjointed notes rather than a cohesive story. Fortunately, it becomes better when the action picks up.Â

Overall, the pacing felt better than in the Hunters except for Qelso and the climax. These felt rushed. I didn't get as many issues with character motivations as in the previous one, but they were still there and, moreover, the characters felt downright stupid at one point. That really hasn't happened before in my history with the series.
