Biography of X by Catherine Lacey

Michael’s first review of the year

really liked it
Catherine Lacey is one of our first writers, and she’s in full form here. It feels like the making of a documentary—archival, long interviews, the building of character through stitched together memories and voices. All set to an alternative America that isn’t as far fetched as we’d like to believe.

Brilliant stuff.

Michael’s last review of the year

it was amazing
This an absolutely gorgeous, hefty novel that spans the lifetime of a queer biracial actor maneuvering through time in a changing world. Sprawling and detailed, this is a book that requires patience and trust.
