it was ok
I wanted to love this book. It has such a good premise! But the execution was terrible. The story focuses on the wrong things, most of the characters are one dimensional, it doesn’t have a lot of depth, I don’t understand why most of the characters were so upset about the “family secret,� and the writing was amateurish. Reading a book from my youth that I’d read dozens of times � each line came back to me as if it had been just in the periphery of my brain the entire time. Love reading it through an adult’s eyes.
Also � pretty bold and brutal of them to kill Kirsten’s best friend with cholera in the first book! It was a choice!
