A fantastic book. One of the great war novels of all time, without a doubt. I'm a bit confused why this book does not have the visibility as the work of Remarque or Crane, so mention two authors considered to have authored military classics.
What strikes me is the similarities between the descriptions of combat in 1870 and those I have read about the Great War--the constant artillery fire, the horrible wounds.

Really enjoying this 4th part of the Otto Prohaska series. Biggins is really in his stride here--strong story--funny, with great detail and characters.

Much stronger than the second book in the series. I really like the story line here, and it feels like Biggins is taking time with the telling of the tale--developing the characters and describing the action. I'm especially enjoying the flying action.

Really enjoying this book. I think it might be better that Remarque's "All's Quiet..." in some ways. Not as dark, but realistic.

Called by some critics a better book than Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front," I was very curious to read this. I finished the first 50-pages at one go, and so far I haven't been disappointed. As with all translations, sometimes I have the feeling the text has suffered, but the story line is superior. Very curious how this will progress.

Funny, irreverent and extremely well-written. Always great to stumble into a great author with a series of books to look forward to...
