Susan Breen The daughter of my mother's friend disappeared when she was 18. Turned out she'd run off with her boyfriend, but it made me curious about people who run from their life and I thought of her when I wrote my new book, Maggie Dove and the Lost Brides.
Susan Breen Right now I'm working on a sequel to my Maggie Dove mystery. It's title Maggie Dove's Detective Agency and it comes out on Oct. 4, which is, coincidentally, my birthday!
Susan Breen I force myself to put something on the page. It might be awful. It probably is awful, but it's less awful than a blank page.
Susan Breen Thank you for asking, Barbara! One of the things I love about mysteries is that they are usually about people trying to make sense of their lives. What are the rules and what happens when the rules are broken? I was drawn to writing about a woman struggling to understand her own life who becomes a detective when one of her Sunday School students, now a grown man, is accused of murder. She knows he didn't do it, but in order to figure out who did it, she has to examine her little village more closely. She also has to figure out what sort of person she's become. It took me about a year to write.
