Benedict Patrick The Golem and the Djinni by Helene Wecker has got me pretty excited. I'm also looking forward to experiencing my first Joe Abercrombie book (Half a King), and the second of the Books of Babel. Also hoping to FINALLY dive into Timandra Whitecastle's Touch of Iron. Oh, and listen to the Age of Swords audiobook!
Benedict Patrick Hey Christina,
I don't know if I've ever received any criticism I'd say was a cheap shot. I think I'll always have the attitude that I'll want to keep developing my writing skills. If one person doesn't like a particular aspect of my stories, I chalk that up to my work not fitting the individual's tastes. If a few people don't like the same aspect of my writing? Maybe that's something I need to look at in future books...
Benedict Patrick I had a good ol' think about this, and I'm going to have to go all geeky for a bit: I really enjoyed Spider-Man and Mary Jane as a couple. It was at its best when they were a young married couple, having to cope with the stresses that their unusual lives brought. The writers who nailed it gave both characters equal prominence in the stories.
It has been a few years since I last picked up Spidey, but I'm aware the marriage is no more/never was. It was good while it lasted, but at least MJ is still around, and hasn't been stuffed in a fridge somewhere...
Benedict Patrick Hi, Randee :) I'm incredibly lucky to work with Jenny over at - you should check out her other work, they're all gorgeous (especially her illustrated covers).
Benedict Patrick Oh, I don't believe in it. Writing isn't easy (if it was, would it be worth doing?), but there's always a way to push through if you have goals to hit. It definitely helps me to have my stories planning in a decent amount of detail before starting on the first draft. Oddly, I also find that it helps if I don't have a lot of time in which to write - it means that I force myself to be economical in how I use my writing time. In other words, I quit worrying about what to write and just put words to paper. Some of them might even be worth keeping.
