L.H. Draken Read everything - even things outside your genre. Keep yourself coming into contact with new ideas and styles and forms. You never know where you'll get inspired. And write consistently. Even if you're not in the writing stage of your book, do something that keeps you putting words together to form ideas and stories.
L.H. Draken I'm mapping out the sequel to Year of the Rabid Dragon. The plot has a naturally very structured form, so I'm organizing the story around the specifics of this structure. It's like filling a skyscraper with furniture and people. The shape is fixed by the nature of the building, but how I'm arranging the furniture and deciding what kind of people go inside.

Not all plots are naturally this structured though -- I had to figure out the shape of Rabid Dragon as I wrote it and then edit it into a better form.
