Practice practice practice! I spend a lot of time thinking up and writing horror scenarios, treating it like a muscle. Also, go to scary places. Do scary things. Fearful memories are some of the easiest to recall.

Fun! It was intended to just be a draft for myself (instead of something published and shared), so I really indulged in all my unhinged ideas and added whatever made me laugh. Each revision from there was just trying to make it cohesive and compulsively readable, even if it's "dark."
