As you were writing The Traitor’s Wife, were there any one who could play them if there ever was a movie made?
Susan Higginbotham I'm terrible with questions like this because I'm not a regular movie-goer! But years ago, I watched the TV series "Our Mutual Friend," and I thought that Keely Hawes would make a fine Eleanor.

Hi, I just finished Hanging Mary and wondered if you will be writing again from that time period?
Susan Higginbotham Yes! Look for my next novel, The First Lady and the Rebel, in October 2019. It tells the stories of Mary Lincoln and her Confederate half-sister, Emily Todd Helm.

Sorry to ask again--I see from your bio that you have a legal background. What did you think about Mary's legal defense, that it was in a military court vs. a civilian court?
Susan Higginbotham I thought that she was at a definite disadvantage. Not being able to testify on her own behalf (which at that time was the case everywhere except in Maine) also was a great disadvantage.

Hi, my name is Cintia and I'm from Argentina. Being a writer is what I want the most in this world, nothing makes me happier than writing, but I'm more and more frustrated with each passing day, because I've been blocked for 3 years. And it is not that I have an unfinished story. I have NOTHING AT ALL. A blank page in front of me, that only makes me sadder... Is there a way to overcome this? How do you handle it?
Susan Higginbotham That's a tough one! Do you write historical fiction? If so, sometimes just finding someone to write about who interests you passionately can help.

Do you have any hated or favorite historical fiction cliches? Like the evil Spanish priest or the protagonist having knowledge of medicine several centuries before the theory was invented?
Susan Higginbotham Oh, yes! The hypocritical priest/minister, the heroine who's great with herbs, the medieval heroine who's shocked, absolutely shocked, that she's expected to marry someone of her father's choosing--I could go on!

Hello ! I know my question will sound a little odd but I am a very great fan of your books and reviews.I want to ask you : between "The Queen Devotion" and "Royal Sisters" by Jean Plaidy which one is better ?I know "The Queen Devotion" is from the point of view of Mary which in my opinion is better but I saw that the reviews are mixed.I liked the preview of the 1st. Thank you ! sorry if my questiom was inappropriate
Susan Higginbotham I hope this doesn't come too late! I've been off Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for a while. I think I preferred "The Queen's Devotion," but it's been a very long time since I've read these books.

I was so disappointed to see your book on Lady Margaret Pole / The Countess of Salisbury was postponed by the publisher, as its arrival would have been timely for a current writing project. I've been trying to do research on the Poles and not having much luck finding out what happened to her husband. Did you find anything in your research process? Does anyone know what he died of?
