I don't tend to get inspiration from physical places, but I've been doing some reading to get thoughts going on some of the book's themes, especially recovery from natural disasters. Rebecca Solnit's "A Paradise Built in Hell" and Donna J. Haraway's "Staying With The Trouble: Making Kin in the Cthulucene" have both been particularly thought-provoking. (As was Erving Goffman's "Asylums," but it goes in parentheses because it didn't turn out to have as much to do with the book as I thought it would - just a thought-provoking read based on my other interests.)
Of course, a lot of my inspiration for this one comes from the fact that I wrote the last one and I love these characters! So that means a lot of the inspiration comes naturally, from thoughts I had about them and the world they live in that there wasn't enough room to explore in The Outside. There'll be a lot more development of Yasira and Tiv's relationship, Elu and Akavi's new partnership, Yasira's recovery from the trauma she experienced in The Outside, Enga's feelings about her partners in crime having run away, everyday life in the Chaos Zone, the history of the Morlock War, and more.

Yes there is! I'm pleased to announce that The Fallen will be released sometime in 2021. More news coming later.

The tide rose quickly around me, teeming with something small, hungry and not-quite-visible. I reached up for my companion's outstretched hand, but he was gone.

When I was younger I wanted to be part of an epic portal fantasy and have adventures. Now I'm 30 and tired and more aware of my limits. I would like to move to the Federation from Star Trek and enjoy some fully automated luxury space communism, please.

My TBR is a real embarrassment right now! (Also, it is no longer summer.) I wish I could read so much more than I currently am - between the books I'm reading for research for a writing project that I can't disclose publicly yet, and the books I'm reading for Autistic Book Party, there's just been so little time to read other people's novels for pleasure. But here's a partial list of some recent(ish) releases that I'm really hoping I can dive into soon: The Awakened Kingdom, Disabled People Destroy Fantasy, Do Not Go Quietly, Docile, Dragon Pearl, The Flowers of Vashnoi, Gideon the Ninth, Gods of Jade and Shadow, Robbergirl, The Trans Space Octopus Congregation, Tone of Voice.
