Lou Anne: Of course, I remember meeting you, and I enjoyed your book Out: A Courageous Woman's Journey. I've begun reading your dad's book. He lived a fascinating life and is one of the little-known heroes in the fight for equal rights in the south. So great to meet you. I hope to see you at the 2018 GCLS Con in Las Vegas.

I love mysteries/crime/detective novels. Although my first novel was about headier issues: coming of age, being true to one's dreams, respecting the differences in others and America's long-running dysfunction around race, I knew I'd have to write a mystery to keep myself from spiraling to far into seriousness. I'm basically fun loving.

The second installment of my Charlene Mack Mysteries. All of the series is set in Detroit although my sleuth and her team will travel near and far as the series unfolds. The first book takes her diverse group of PIs to Birmingham, Alabama. Charlie Mack is a black, woman investigator with a black belt, a law degree, a gun, a few flaws and compassion.

I'm an aspiring/emerging/learning writer myself. You don't have to find your voice, you already have it; just know it is legitimate and believe the world we be a better place for you having shared it. Also write everyday, even if it is only a pithy and well-written grocery list.

You can smoke cigarettes and drink. No! Just kidding. You can use writing as an excuse for staring, eavesdropping, and trolling inappropriate web sites and chalk it up to research. Sorry, I can't seem to take this question seriously.

I do some physical work. Gardening, painting, housecleaning, exercise. Anything that makes me sweat.
