David Michael The only time in my life I have ever had writer's block was when I tried to outline my first book. I was new to the process and did it because that's what authors were "supposed" to do. Little did I know that my characters would take on lives and personalities of their own that often conflicted with the outline I had in place for them. Every time I tried to force one of them to do something that the character wouldn't naturally do, I hit a wall. It was infuriating. So I have up on plotting and now I just let my characters run rampant. They know what's best and I just have to trust in that. I can always edit in something I deem important later.
David Michael Getting to interact with my fan base. There's nothing cooler than having hundreds of people who enjoyed my work and like to take the time out of their day to talk to me about it. It's surreal.
David Michael WRITE! Every day. Even if it's only for 20 minutes. As Nike says, JUST DO IT! Your work will get better with time. Also remember, you are your own worst critic. Find a stranger and let them read your work. It's terrifying, but the feedback you receive is invaluable.
David Michael As of today (March 22, 2015) I am working on an Erotic Comedy titled 'Porter'. It's the first book in a trilogy and follows the story of a porn star who longs to make it in mainstream Hollywood and will do anything (or anyONE) to get there. When he meets Holly, Hollywood's most sought-after casting director, he finds his dream within reach. And then he falls for her. Conflicts of interest abound as Holly and Porter try to navigate the murky waters they find themselves in and they realize that one of them will have to give up their dreams if they're going to make it work between them.
David Michael I'm one of the lucky ones who gets his ideas RIGHT as I'm about to fall asleep. It never fails. Every time. I have notebooks upon notebooks filled with my half-awake chicken scratch outlining the basic plots of my books. I currently have 23 in some stage of completion and PLENTY more kicking around in my head!
