Ghorman’s Plight on ANDOR Shows the Depths of the Empire’s Evil
began by telling us the Empire is evil in . An hour later we saw how true that was when Grand Moff Tarkin obliterated Alderaan, instantly murdering millions. But that was only possible because the Empire had secretly built the ultimate weapon of subjugation, the Death Star. How did they pull that off? It wasn’t the work of a few powerful men with mystic powers. Andor is showing how countless willing and eager supporters, each acting with total disregard for human life, made the Death Star possible in Star Wars world. In Andor, it’s a , with a tale that explores the true depths of the Empire’s evil.

The first arc of Andor‘s second season included one of the most terrifying sequences in Star Wars history. It didn’t involve lightsabers or blasters. It involved truly normal people planning a truly heinous act in the way others discuss where to get lunch. Director Orson Krennic called a highly classified, unofficial meeting of Imperial officers to discuss a potential problem. He claimed it was about the Emperor’s “Energy Initiative, but we know Krennic is building the Death Star. For that, we learn on Andor, he needs a mineral that only Ghorman possesses, Kalkite. The issue is taking the Kalkite out of the ground might result in the planet’s total collapse.
The proud and ancient Ghormans won’t just give over their planet quietly, so Krennic called the Andor meeting to come up with a strategy to silence all resistance. The other Imperial officers knew, without being told and without objection, what that means. Nine cities with a combined 800,000 Ghormans will have to be dealt with. And they’ll be dealt with violently and permanently.

Ghorman is no minor planet. It’s rich, powerful, and prestigious. If something happens to it, other worlds will notice and some will rise up against the Empire in response. So, on Andor, Krennic and his team of amoral lackeys began concocting a plan to make the potential genocide of Ghorman a positive. The Director has an outside PR firm ready to turn the rest of the galaxy against the smug Ghor. Meanwhile, Dedra Meero told Krennic they will need more than just marketing to make this work. They need to foster an incompetent rebellion on the planet so the Empire can then use rebel activity as justification for what the Empire is going to do anyway. They want to present tyranny as righteousness, all in the name of order.
It was a chilling sequence because of how easily a room full of people discussed annihilating an entire world. They schemed with the cold calculation of mechanics fixing a car. And in Andor season two’s second arc, we got to see how secret plans developed in shadowy rooms turn into the people of Ghorman’s actual oppression and real suffering.

It’s not bad enough that the Empire is using tactics everyone on the planet can see, like imposing draconian laws in the name of “safety and building an illegal armory while claiming it’s just an office building. Dedra is even using her own boyfriend, Syril Karn, to help the Empire wipe out the Ghor. She has him intentionally tricking the underground resistance into believing Syril is sympathetic to their cause. He’s the plant in a plan whose ingenuity is only matched by its unimaginable evilness. The Empire is so vile that it uses the inevitable rebellion it knew it would cause on Ghorman against itself on Andor. It is turning the very fight for freedom into a tool of oppression.
The wannabe Imperialist bootlicker thinks he’s trying to help the the Empire root out rebel activity in the galaxy at large. Syril doesn’t know what we do, that Partagaz and his own girlfriend are secretly using him to help annihilate Ghorman. They will destroy it the same way the Death Star will one day soon destroy Alderaan. Only, what is happening to Ghorman on Andor might be even crueler. Tarkan will give those living on Alderaan the mercy of a quick death. Krennic, Partagaz, and Meero are slowly suffocating Ghorman. And it’s using Ghorman’s bravest to choke the planet and everyone on it to death.

Star Wars began its story by both telling and showing us what defined the Empire. But millions of voices suddenly crying out in terror is hard to process. Our brains are not built to understand tragedy of that magnitude. We didn’t know any of the people who died that day, either. Evil Emperors who rely on the Force are also not of this world, and that can make them feel distant.
But seeing a room full of evil people, nonchalantly and without an ounce of objection, plan a genocide? To then see their awful plan playing out in real time with real victims we get to meet and root for, people trying to do the right thing for the right reason? To see how terrible people will always begin with an advantage because good people can’t even comprehend the level of the wickedness they’re dealing with? That’s much easier to understand. That’s what makes the Andor Ghorman scenes harder to watch, because it’s all too human and true.
We know what awaits the Ghor. It doesn’t matter how hard they fight or who helps them. In a couple of years, the Death Star will become fully operational. The Empire is destined to get its Kalkite. But their sad story has great meaning beyond the galaxy far, far away. By showing us the exact ways that happened, by letting us see the execution of an awful crime that happened because so many worked to make it happen, Andor has shown something we’ve always known but never understood better. It is showing us not only the true depths of the Empire’s evil, but who made that possible.

Watch Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds Sing a Little DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Song Together
Last summer, Deadpool & Wolverine ruled cinema screens. It heralded the long-awaited returns of both “the Merc with the Mouth. and after many years. And stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, pushed their blockbuster in as many creative ways as they possibly could. But their best promotional appearance for Deadpool & Wolverine was actually on . The two actors decided to perform a little song, where the two throw friendly insults at each other. Both insults to themselves, and to their characters. You can watch Reynolds and Jackman’s one minute Deadpool & Wolverine song right here:
Jackman makes reference to starring in ten whole movies as Wolverine over twenty years, to which Reynolds retorts with an “Ok, Boomer jab. Jackman is actually a Gen X-er, having been born in 1968, but Logan is way older than a Baby Boomer, so maybe we’ll give this one to Ryan Reynolds. When Jackman drops his X-Men credentials, Ryan Reynolds responds by saying “Yawn. But good old Hugh reminds Ryan that Green Lantern was a big bomb. It sure seems like Ryan Reynolds It is pretty funny when he does it though.

We expect both Jackman and Reynolds to return for either or Avengers: Secret Wars. They have to show up in some capacity, right? Marvel still has to explain that scene Deadpool has with Thor that we saw on the monitors in the TVA. But despite its massive box office success, there has been no official announcement for a follow-up film to Deadpool & Wolverine. Maybe Marvel Studios is planning a Deadpool & Wolverine & Gambit movie adding Channing Tatum? That seems to be what most fans want. Now, just sit back and imagine the amount of busting each other’s balls we would get on that particular press tour.

Video Celebrates the 2005 Hype, Toys, and Fandom for REVENGE OF THE SITH
The re-release of blew away expectations, making tons of money at the box office. Almost no one saw it coming. No one, that is, except Star Wars fans who were kids in 2005. For that generation of fans, they often cite it as their favorite in the whole saga. Revenge of the Sith, at the time, was believed to be the end of the Star Wars films. At least according to George Lucas. So the hype going into it was massive. Now, YouTube channel has uploaded a video exploring the hype, merchandise, and fan reaction to Revenge of the Sith back in 2005. You can watch this trip down memory lane right here:
This video has a ton of vintage footage that is sure to give several fans all the nostalgic feels. Not only is there footage of packed theaters opening night, but there are many old commercial clips for all the merchandise. There was a lot of merch. This was the era when 7-11 released their “Darth Dew Slurpee. There were also Lava Berry Explosion Pop Tarts, . You know, the one where a guy got his limbs chopped off and immolated. Yummy! And of course, there were the toys. Even the little Jedi kid who (played by George Lucas son) got an action figure. It was a wild time.

In terms of hype and merchandise, nothing can really beat the original trilogy in terms of pop cultural hold. It was a true juggernaut. But Revenge of the Sith came out in an era where it had to compete with other fantasy/sci-fi franchises like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, and more. The film still managed to grab a hold of the public imagination, and the public’s wallet, in a big way, nearly 30 years after A New Hope hit theaters. Take a bow, Mr. Lucas. No one did it quite like you.

ANDOR Season 2 Shows That Television Exists in the STAR WARS Universe
Is television a part of the Star Wars universe? For years, we would have said no. The only equivalent would be the HoloNet, which is a combination of the internet and the holographic technology we’ve seen since A New Hope. But in , we find out that television does indeed exist in the galaxy far, far away. In fact, Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) zones out in season two episode five, watching what we would qualify as a morning talk show, like The View or Good Morning America. And it’s definitely not a holographic projection like we usually see in Star Wars.

Bix is watching as two ladies vapidly dish about the latest celebrities and parties on Coruscant. Their looks reflect how the people in the Capital look in The Hunger Games franchise, which is probably intentional. They make it a point to say they “Don’t care about political parties, just parties. Clearly, this is what we call “State TV, a tool used in fascist societies to spoon-feed the masses with mindless entertainment and propaganda. But it’s still TV nevertheless.
Like most tech the television Bix watches is not exactly futuristic-looking. It looks like an old CRT tube TV, with low resolution. Your high-definition television in the real world looks better than the TV we see in Andor. This fits in with how George Lucas presented technology in his world since the beginning. There was faster-than-light travel, and space stations the size of planets. But the dials and knobs used in this were old school, almost what we’d call steampunk today. So old-looking television existing in this galaxy actually fits with Lucas original aesthetic for Star Wars.

In Skeleton Crew, we saw the character of Neel watching an alien circus holographic performance with his family. But this is not on a TV screen, and it’s the standard projected hologram, which we first saw with Princess Leia in A New Hope. We suppose that could be considered a TV show of sorts. Actually, which aired way back in 1978. In The Clone Wars, we’d often see troopers listening to music with accompanying images on the HoloNet, but that was more akin to Armed Forces Radio. Andor is still the first time we’ve seen something approaching what we think of as television.

So does Star Wars television have its own designation, or is it all just part of the greater HoloNet? We imagine it’s similar to how streaming content is viewed in the real world. You can watch the same content in multiple formats, like on your computer, your phone, or on your actual TV. Someone can watch “Good Morning Empire on a little TV screen, or in holographic form. But we can’t help but wonder, if there are talk shows, what about other TV content? Is there a Star Wars galaxy equivalent for sitcoms, or for soap operas? Maybe future Star Wars content will give us “Everybody Loves Chewie or “All My Younglings. It’s only a matter of time before we see something like that.

Guy Ritchie Will Direct ROAD HOUSE 2, Jake Gyllenhaal Returning as Dalton
During his career Guy Ritchie has directed a fight scene or two.hundred. The man knows his way around a brawl! Now he’s ready to helm another film sure to deliver a whole lot of fisticuffs. He’s taking over directing duties from Doug Liman for Amazon MGM Studios Road House 2. But while things are changing behind the camera, the sequel will still feature the return of .

Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Gentleman) has officially signed on to direct the followup to one of Prime Video’s biggest hits ever. He’s returning to Amazon MGM for his third film with the studio. He previously wrote and directed The Covenant. He also pulled double-duty his upcoming film In the Grey which still does not have an official release date.
Ritchie isn’t the only one with plenty of action movie experience joining the sequel. Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F) will pen the script. While no details about the story are known, the 2024 remake/reboot/reimagining ended with former UFC fighter Elwood Dalton leaving the bar in the Florida Keys for an unknown destination. He could end up anywhere so long as that place has a bar that needs cleaning up.
While it’s unclear why Dalton’s next job will take him, it’s no surprise Liman won’t be back to continue telling the bouncer’s story. The director didn’t hide his unhappiness with Amazon’s decision to make the film a streaming only release. He was ultimately proven right about that strategy, as Road House became the streamer’s biggest hit ever. That’s why .
! Like the original, Road House is the exact type of film that would have been an even better experience if you saw it in a packed theater. Will Amazon give viewers the chance to do that with Road House 2? We don’t know that either. We just know with Guy Ritchie’s experiences filming fights the film deserves a fighting chance to appear on big screens.

DC Studios Cancels First Movie: Luca Guadagnino’s SGT. ROCK Starring Colin Farrell Not Moving Forward
It was only recently that we first heard that DC Studios was planning a movie based on their World War II action hero, Sgt. Rock. First, former 007 Daniel Craig was rumored to play him, before Colin Farrell . Most excitingly, Queer and Challengers director Luca Guadagnino was going to be at the helm of Sgt. Rock. Now, that all seems to be over just as fast as it started. According to , Warner Bros. and DC Studios have canceled the Sgt. Rock movie just as it was going into pre-production in the U.K.

Sgt. Rock was in the middle of the casting process when the hammer came down from the studio. The production was looking for actors who would play the men of Easy Company. This was Rock’s combat unit who battled the Nazi forces in Europe. Among the actors lined up for a role, probably as a member of Easy Company, was Բ Mike Faist. DC Studios was also casting the part of a female member of the French Resistance. Apparently, Sgt. Rock isn’t totally dead, and the studio will revisit it next year. Our guess? Warner Bros. wants to see how and Supergirl fare before greenlighting anything new from DC Studios.
The original report says that the script by Justin Kuritzkes would have focused the Sgt. Rock movie on Easy Company, along with the female French resistance fighter, trying to find the mythical Spear of Destiny before the Nazis do. In DC Comics lore, Hitler possessed the Spear of Destiny, which supposedly protected him from harm. This was DC’s in-canon reason why didn’t just swoop into Germany and take him out. The premise gives us real Indiana Jones vibes, and sounds like it would have been fun. Hopefully, DC Studios will be in a position to resurrect Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock movie someday.

SHŌGUN Season 2 Confirms Cosmo Jarvis Return, Time Jump, Original Season and More
’sōܲ recently took the TV world by storm. So much so that instead of a planned mini-series, ōܲ became a full-fledged TV series with a confirmed season two and three. We knew from the start that Hiroyuki Sanada’s Lord Yoshii Toranaga would return for season two of the series, but now FX has confirmed that Cosmo Jarvis English pilot John Blackthorne would also be back for more. Additionally, FX has revealed more about the plot of ōܲ season two.
The network that ōܲ season two will be “a wholly original new chapter to the first season. The first season, of course, was adapted from James Clavell’s novel ōܲ. In full FX shares, “Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, who created the series for television, recently wrapped a writers room devoted to creating a wholly original new chapter to the first season, which was an original adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel Part two of ōܲ is set ten years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.

Of note, Sanada’s Lord Tornaga and Jarvis John Blackthorne are the only two members of the original season one cast who survived ōܲ season one. Other main characters such as Anna Sawai’s Lady Toda Mariko and Tadanobu Asano’s Kashigi Yabushige met their deaths in the first chapter of the show.

ANDOR Recasts a Major STAR WARS Character for Season 2
In episode six of season two, Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) runs into a fairly significant Star Wars character at a gala party, this time, with someone new playing the role. Senator Bail Organa, famously portrayed by Jimmy Smits in several different projects, is now played by Benjamin Bratt (Traffic, Coco) in Andor. Bratt’s scene as Bail Organa in Andor is very brief, so we imagine if Lucasfilm is recasting such a major role, it’s because he’ll play a bigger part in future episodes. Given Bail Organa’s importance to the Rebel Alliance overall, seeing him again before it’s all over seems very likely.

Jimmy Smits first played the senator from Alderaan in a brief role in Star Wars: Episode II . Smits reprised the role of Bail Organa in a larger capacity in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. In that film, Bail Organa rescued Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the aftermath of Order 66. More importantly, Smit’s Bail Organa adopted the infant Leia, raising her as a princess in the royal house of Alderaan. Cut scenes from that movie show him . Jimmy Smits reprised the role in Rogue One, which canonically takes place after Andor, and again in Obi-Wan Kenobi. There, we see Bail Organa and his wife, Queen Breha, raising Princess Leia on Alderaan. But for unknown reasons, Jimmy Smits didn’t return to play Bail Organa in Andor.

This is actually not the first time Lucasfilm has recast this role, though. Bail Organa originally played a small role in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Actor Adrian Dunbar actually played the part in a sequence set in the Galactic Senate, but George Lucas cut those Bail Organa scenes. Still, Dunbar appeared as Bail Organa in various merchandise released for Episode I, such as sticker books. Smits then replaced him for Attack of the Clones. Bail Organa also appears several times in The Clone Wars and Rebels, voiced by Phil LaMarr, and not Smits. So Lucasfilm has already had multiple actors play the role of Bail Organa in the Star Wars world. The real question is, if Bail Organa is in Andor does this mean ? We’ll have to wait and find out.
