Raks on Stage

Things have been chaotic for a week at home. It was the school day function at Raks's Arts Academy.

A week ago, she came home and declared importantly that she has been selected to play a soldier at the dance drama. Well we were thrilled!
She went around parading with an imaginary sword with that cute serious look in her face that really tugged my heart. Her father went overboard and shopped for a toy sword, bow and arrow and a short knife. Enthused with her new weapons, she tried them all on m...

"Matching Matching" Madness

It's been exactly one month since the school reopened and we are yet to get used to same old schedule. Up at six, preparing lunch box and snacks by seven and waking Raks up. Ever since she saw Ramayana, she wants to pretend to be Kumbakarna and wants me to get the elephants to wake her up! Phew!

Questions that I face every morning -

"Who says that I have to have milk everyday morning? Is that a rule or what?"
"Why should I eat breakfast? No one is eating at this hour. So why only me?
"Why this dr...

Ramayana with Raks

Watching Ramayana with raks today turned out be more insightful than any other book I read recently. How come kids turn out to be so smart even before they are five? I can only imagine how dumb I was, when I was her age.

Raks and I watched Ramayana (cartoon version) on her ipad. And this was the conversation we had...

Raks: Why is sita not wearing a blouse?

Hmm. I was desperately thinking up an answer for this. Why? Why?

Me: Aha! yes. She forgot to wash it.

Raks: Wrong Answer mother. They di...

Book Review: Confessions of a Shopoholic

I did not know that there is such a prejudice against chick-lit books like Shopoholic series until I googled it online. But by then, I had read the first one and was onto the second one.  Will I be ostracized from literary world if I say how much I like them? I guess I don't care so here is my review -

My Review

Becky Bloomwood is the bored reporter of Successful Savings where she writes long articles about hedge funds, portfolios and boring finance stuff. She half heartedly cove...

Superman Review

While I regretted taking raks to 'Life of Pi', I was scared that she might repeat the same reaction for Superman. Thankfully Man of Steel seems to have made some impression on her.

My Review

I know that there have been many comparisons and bad reviews but I really enjoyed the movie. (I haven't watched the last Superman movie so really can't compare.)

The movie begins in Krypton which is on verge of collapse and Jor El (Russel Crowe) (which was a surprise!) steals a codex from General Zod t...

Book Revew: Yajnaseni The Story of Draupadi

I have always been fascinated by our epics Mahabharata and Ramayana. I read K.M. Munshi's Krishnavatara when I was just a ten year old kid. And I doubt, if any other author can present 'Krishna' as he did. His characterization of Draupadi and Krishna in Krishnavatra, were the best that I read ever.

Yajnaseni: The Story of Draupadi was a impulsive buy, which I thankfully did not regret. Written by Prathiba Ray and translated by Pradip Bhattacharya, this is Mahabharata told from the perspec...

Book Review: The Corinthian

I won 'The Corinthian' by Georgette Heyer as a prize for presenting the best literary paper on John Keats during college. And I still have the book :) I discovered it recently at my mother's house where I have stashed some books :)

Sir Richaed is dead drunk when he sets out to walk home. He had just proposed marriage to a girl whom he does not love. As it happens he catches Penelope escaping from her home to avoid a loathsome marriage. The gentleman that he is, he decides to escort her to her...
