It's about love, but also about trying to do some good in the world. It's about people understanding each other and understanding themselves, and what happens when someone can't do either. I just finished it, and all I want to do is read it again. (less)

Dorothea didn't want to remarry because she knew the one person she liked was not available... They were too interested in their freedom to do whatever they liked to marry unless it was a real passion and none existed between them.
But Dorothea seems like a woman who would mold herself according to her husband's need as long as she can feel that will serve to help him do some good to the world. She would have been a good wife to any kind person with a passion to some discovery or business...(less)
