Did the book meet your expectations?

Debra Leigh Scott Yes, and no. I expected that it would be a quick read, which it was. I expected that it would present some interesting thoughts on the state of being â€¦m´Ç°ù±ðYes, and no. I expected that it would be a quick read, which it was. I expected that it would present some interesting thoughts on the state of being single through history, which it did. But it really didn't exam the issue for all women -- only white women of means through modern history. So the choices and considerations Bolick discussed were narrowed by her focus on that particular sector of the population. (less)

Could anyone who has access to the book please tell me on what page this quotation occurs (it is p. 23 of my ebook PDF version)?: "The overall number of single women in America starts at a high of 34 percent in 1890, slides down one percent per decade, all the way to the bottom point of the Vâ€�17 percent in 1960â€”and then climbs back up and up, 2 percent per decade, to 53 percent in 2013." I loved the section where you talked about houses being the main character in novels. What a concept! My question is two fold.... in the classic Rebecca do you consider Manderlay a chracter and do you know when you dream of houses it is your own persona?

In the synopsis, it says that over 100 million women aren't married. But the assumption seems to be that all of them don't want to be married, which just isn't true. Also that 100 million includes anyone over 18, and while marriage rates are going down, we see that the average age at marriage is going up. This sort of skews towards the authors argument unnecessarily. Why is that?
