I wish I could find some article or something that outlines which characters were real and which were ficticious.... Anyone know?

Many of the main characters seem to be a merging of local figures. For example the Presbyterian minister Oliver Cromwell mcIvor....seems very much like Ian Paisly who was active in the politics of the 70s in NI. Countess Markovich was a real person that Addie who Connor finally falls in love with closely follows the countesses involvement in the events leading to the 1916 rising. (less)
