The Renegades #3 Romantic Suspense Action MMM
“It’s a fine line between not revealing your arsenal and creating disorder by showing your strength.

Funny how calm you could feel when someone had ripped the heart out of your chest.

River and Reese Tenley had grown up on the fringes of society, spending most of their adult years as private military contractors in places nobody else wanted to go. It’d been the two of them against the world, and they’d never believed their missing puzzle piece had existed—until they’d met Shay. The young man who’d quickly become their everything.

So the moment he was kidnapped The moment those sick bastards took Shay, the twin brothers had nothing left to lose.

The streets were going to run red with blood until they had their boy back.

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

I didn’t know who was attacking us, but they’d already signed their death warrants.

This is the third installment of The Renegades series and it mainly focuses on River and Reese trying to find Shay. Luckily for us, we also get some more from Crew and Adrien along with a little bit here and there from the rest of the guys.

I liked that we got to see some of River, Reese and Shay’s perspectives from when the attack first happened at Elliott’s leading up to their time in this book.

It’d been fifteen days since an in-house cartel war had robbed Riv and me of our future and turned us into our pasts.

We also get some fantastic flashbacks to when Shay first entered River and Reese’s lives. I will happily read anything about these three. There’s also a hot little moment in one of the flashbacks.

Heat rushed through me, and I stared down at where we were connected. With each thrust, some of Reese’s come was pushed out, soaking Shay’s ass and my cock.

I just adore Crew and Adrien together! I can’t wait for more of them. Crew is a hoot.

“Your sweet talk is weirdly exhilarating, I said. I had to. That was how I felt. “I just wanna kiss you silly and hump your leg.

I am beyond excited for the last book to come out. I can’t wait to read the resolution to this action packed series.

The action-packed chase around Europe & South America continues in this 3rd book of the series. We get to see all the guys we’ve followed in the first 2 books, but this one primarily focuses on the Tenley twins River & Reece, and their partner Shay (who we know & love from Cara’s “The Game series). There is a taboo nature to the relationship between the twins, and you do get flashbacks to previous sexy times with Shay. But these flashbacks more importantly show us the depth of River & Reece’s love for Shay, how he completes them, and how utterly lost they feel without him. The whole book is punctuated by River & Reece’s internal dialogue pining for Shay, and Jesus, every single one is deeply emotional & a hammer-blow to your heart.

I burned through this, and loved every minute of it. It ends in a fast-paced action scene that we see from multiple perspectives of the team members, and a huge cliffhanger. Unfortunately I now need to patiently wait for the next book, the last in the series, releasing Sept 1. I actually wish the series would never end

“We’re coming, sweetheart. We’ll be together again soon.

“We’re bringing you home, baby. We clearly can’t fucking live without you.

“You’re not alone, sweetheart.
We’re here, pup.

“Sight for sore eyes, baby—stay with me.

This never lets up.

If you’ve already devoured the first two books you’ll want to get on this one right away. The Tenley twins and their entourage are coming for Shay and emotions are running high.

I loved the POV changes that kept the story going from all sides. It felt like I was there, in the camps and the trenches, feeling the highs and lows with River and Reese as they traverse the Columbian jungle in search of the man they simply cannot live without. Returning empty handed is not an option.

I loved being in their heads. Their twin telepathy and seeing just how in sync they truly are is a joy.

The flashbacks to their early days with Shay show just how much he changed not only their lives but who they are. How he made them better versions of themselves. The love between them is so palpable I was burning through the pages with tears in my eyes frantic to get them back together.

I absolutely adore these three men.

But it’s not over yet. They’re not safe. And there’s still two more hostages to rescue.

I can’t wait for the conclusion. This is an extraction series, not a romance. But it’s also one of the best damn romances I’ve ever read. Fans of Cara’s work will be so intrinsically invested in these characters because the emotion just pours off the page.

This is more than three little words. This is action. Proof of exactly how far they’ll go and what they’ll do for the man they love. I’ll take that any day of the week.

Absolutely. Freaking. Love. This.

Just like the previous two, this is only really a chapter in the overall story which is running throughout The Renegades series but oh my lordy, it's an absolute belter!

We're with the Tenley twins for the vast majority of this and let's just say it's an intense ride as they go into full blown combat mode trying to find Shay and the other kidnap victims.

Using a clever narrative choice, we see the twins in occasional flashbacks at the start of their relationship with Shay, contrasting with the terror and the determination to end the cartel at the heart of the recent deaths of their friends and fellow private military contractors.

Cara also uses news pieces before each chapter to catch up the reader on what's happening in the wider hunt for the man responsible for all the chaos before we get deep into Reese's head as the trail gets warmer.

No spoilers, but this one definitely has the most action in it, there's threads being pulled together from all over the globe and we finally get most of the gang together in Columbia for what's sure to be a huge confrontation in the final book.

I cannot wait!

Possible Triggers: Kidnapping and Graphic Murder
Shay Tenley...twins, River and Reese Tenley's husband, has been kidnapped right off their home property and right under their very noses. The book cover, rightfully tell as that "The streets were going to run red with blood until they had their boy back". This series is suggested that it be read in order and of course, I didn't. Does that come as a surprise to anyone? This series, although I was happy to see that it brought together all of the characters, is just SO different from "The Game" series that came before it. As crazy as I am about these characters. I'm not at all crazy about mercenary type stories. Anyone that enjoys that type of story, will more than likely really like it, much more than I did. I have to admit that I read it because of the featured characters.... Reece, River and Shay. The Tensley twins are going to find and bring their husband, Shay, home even if it means destroying an entire county. The brothers and their friends cut a deadly swath through Carillo’s, (a character from the other 2 books that I didn't read), known associates, murdering and torturing along the way, in order to find Shay. There are a few flashbacks which helped to give some background to the relationship...for those that didn't read The Games series, that show pieces of how Shay met Reese and River, and how they came to share their kink and their lives. Shay was anything but fragile, even from book #1 of The Games series. He was always a fighter and a survivor. This is what he's doing now while a captive... always knowing that his husbands will move Heaven and Earth to find him. You can see immediately how much of a connection these three men have. The rescue becomes more of a sure thing as more of the group of friends arrive to help with the operation to kill off the heads of the cartel and bring their kidnapped "friend", and husband, home. The story is filled with a lot of investigative work aa well as a lot of action and suspense. I guess I'm going to have to search out book #2 since I really want to learn more about Crew and Adrien's relationship story. This one is an entertaining as well as a fairly quick read...but be warned it does end with a cliffhanger.

Here are my thoughts:

River & Reese & Shay:
I love these three. They are one of my favourite couples ever and they didn’t disappoint here either. The already established relationship did work wonderfully for this plot.

The plot:
I really liked it. I definitely didn’t mind seeing the Twins work either. They were fun! The whole thing around finding Shay had me hooked too of course. Especially because the love and the fear of the twins was palpable. They showed their worry and I loved to see that.

The ending:
The cliffhanger of the last two books didn’t annoy me all that much (probably because the whole series has been released already and I don’t have to wait eons for the next one to be published). But it did annoy me here. I really, really wanted a bigger reunion scene. I craved it, I needed it. I hope I get it in book five, otherwise I don’t know what to do with myself.

Alright. Let’s get started on book four. I’m definitely curious about Elliot & Joel’s story and I really need that happy ending now.

This series should have been a duology but you can’t milk your readers @$5.99 a pop that way, ugh 😣
I’m spoiled by KU.

This was River,Reese and Shay mostly. Getting Shay home. Book 4 better be a doozy since these first 3 books were drip drip drip of information, deep sigh.

The suspense and action is why this is 5 stars but really it should be 3 1/2 for the story/plot. Lots of repeated scenes and dragging things out until the last page. Meh,

* 5 stars *

Book three out of four, and their adventure is far from over. More friends are joining the team, and the action is starting to rise. They're almost done with gathering information and searching for answers. It's time to act and bring home their loved ones.

In the previous book, the team was pretty scattered, but now they're starting to regroup. They're getting closer to the end, and the stakes are higher than ever.

This book focuses on River, Reese, and Shay, and it's mainly from Reese's POV. Aside from these three, parts of the book are told from the POV of other characters as well. I liked this narration style as we got to see what was happening in different areas since not everyone was always in the same place.

Out of the first three books of the series, this one has the biggest cliffhanger. But since I don't want to spoil anything about the story, I'm not going to elaborate on that.

Even though River, Reese, and Shay are the MCs in Breathless and the twins are the MCs in The Air That I Breathe, this book can be read independently from them. No background detail is necessary as the author provides all the important info here. And she does it without it sounding repetitive or like an info dump. It's very organic and fits seamlessly into the story, like background info for new characters.

The fourth and last book will be the conclusion of the story, and from what I understand, it focuses on Elliott and Joel but will wrap up the stories of the other MCs as well. I'm guessing that the narration will follow the style of this one, with one main narrator and many other characters pitching in with scenes here and there.

I can't wait to read the rest of this story!

Bam! I can’t believe that just ended! Honestly, I was shocked to realize I had come to the end. Waahh!

Ok. Whew. Finally, finally, FINALLY! Still nowhere near a completed mission but this was something and something fantastic. I need the finale NOW!

So, let’s talk about these guys. Let’s first talk about the twins. I admit to being a little fascinated with them and I am sure I am just late to that party, I am sure they are a favorite in this world. But, but, buuuuuuttttttt, I don’t know if I can go read their book. I don’t know if I have it in me even with my sort of fascination and curiosity about them. BDSM is normally something I don’t read, maybe I’ll do a BDSM lite if I get the go ahead from a trusted friend, but normally it is just not my thing. Their book does not sound BDSM lite, it sounds like BDSM heavy and it frightens me.

But I am curious.

So yeah, I definitely am missing more history reading this one, almost more then I felt while reading the others, but honestly it took nothing away from what was going on in these books. Nothing. Yes, it’s nice to have the history, the setup, the backstory, but this series reads like a mission and to me a sort of introduction, and it is just so exciting and dangerous and time is running out and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all. And that my friends, for someone who has to read in order, is fucking magic.

This is a pretty interesting way to tell a tale, these installments coming out quickly with no real end until the end and I can’t say I hate it. I can say I am anxious and can't wait for the finale and the promised epilogue for everyone!

Time is ticking guys, let’s go!

Listen, I’d willingly do a lot of things to get more River, Reese and Shay. So I am shamelessly going to say that this book wins with me just because they are the main MCs.

Shay has been taken by some bad guys. River and Reese will stop at nothing to get him back. While this was more of an action book than a romance, it didn’t make me any less invested. Shay is gone for, what, two weeks? And I was gutted for River and Reese. Reading each of their POVs and reading the flashbacks to when they met Shay’s family for the first time was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

Things with the cartels are really ramping up and the book does end on a cliffhanger. But it also ends with Shay being rescued and that’s all the closure I needed. As long and River, Reese and Shay are together, all is right in my book world.

Well I successfully read this book in one sitting. I legit COULD NOT STOP until I got to the end…because REASONS! 🤣

This book is fast paced and filled with scenes from Tenshay’s past that will make long time lovers of this trio swoon! River, Reese, and Shay aren’t the only ones with POVs in this installment and I loved every one we got!! On The Double also featured some guest appearances that Cara Dee fans will enjoy 😉

I CANT WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS WRAPS UP!

I have to admit I was nervous about picking this one up, knowing how much Shay already had been through and that it would most likely be an emotional read And well, if anyone ever wondered if the twins love for Shay could ever be as strong as the love they have for each other, the proof was on every page in this story. The twins feelings and the way they missed him was just so profound and powerful.

I loved to see more of River and Reese, especially the flashbacks with them and Shay - there was just so much love and tenderness shown in those moments. Finally getting River’s PoV was such a treat as well! This series has a lot of characters that I completely adore, and it was great to see how they took care of each other and bantered even in high stress situations.

I loved the alternating PoVs, even if I dreaded Shay’s a little - the lil fighter pup was definitely trying his hardest to keep things together and I hated to see him hurting. The different narratives offered a great overview of the plot and planning, and it was a clever way of making it easier to keep track of everything that was going on. Crew’s PoV also added a bit more insight to his and Adrien’s relationship, which I loved.

On the Double definitely amped up the action and suspense, and there was barely a calm moment. The pacing was intense and I couldn’t put the story down while reading. Cara Dee is doing an absolutely amazing job with this series and I can’t wait to see how she’ll wrap things up in Tango Down!

This is the third book in The Renegades series & this has so far been my favourite in the series. I loved the Tenley twins & Shay, oh Shay what a fighter he was, this book didn't have much of a romance but it was still amazing because you could see the action from the Tenley twins & how they could do anything to bring back their boy to them & also everyone comes in this book to help the Tenley twins to bring back Shay.

I loved the twins & their chemistry was amazing, how in sync they were & they could read each other so well. Reese was one of the calm ones or trying to be so he could be there for River & they don't lose hope. Another amazing character was Crew Gah I love this boy, I liked how he helped them & Cara has written this plot so amazingly, I devoured this book.

I loved how we got different POVs, so you could see the action from everyone's perspective. I loved the jungle scene where there was banter between the guys, I liked how they knew so much about each other & how they were together to get their loved ones back, I am so here for it. And this book also ends with a cliffhanger, so I am looking forward to reading Book 4 so we could get more action & I want to know Elliot & Joel's story too and also a HEA to all the other characters.

On The Double is book three in The Renegades series.

Read this if you like:
Crime/Action
The Games & Auctions characters
Romantic Suspense
MMM Romance

Maybe I might be just a tiny bit bias but this is probably my fave from the series. I adore the Tenley's. And while this isn't our usual kink story with them in The Game series, I'm so here for it regardless.
I said this is my previous reviews but I would liken this series to Auctioned. With the suspense and action aspects with a dash of romance. But while romance is not the heavy plot motive here. It has all the elements you need for romantic suspense.

We following River & Reese's journey in getting their boy Shay back. I feel like we really saw a different side to both of the twins, they showed vulnerabilities we don't usually see in their usual roles. The character development for both twin and Shay is brilliant.
This series should also be read in order. It is a different couple each book however the overall plot flows through each book. And while you can absolutely read this series without having read The Game series and Auctioned I highly recommend giving them a read anyway. They're well worth the read!

TenShay is just an automatic 5 stars.

If you haven't read the Game series you might not get quite as much out of the romance in this one, but you can definitely still follow the plot from parts 1 and 2. Things are really heating up as the crew unravels connections between the cartels and discovers just how far this kidnapping plot goes.

The flashbacks we get of TenShay's lives in DC made my heart melt, and I lost count of just how many people the twins took out on their mission to get Shay back. The "touch him and die" trope was SHOWING OFF.

I cannot wait for more of these three (and all our other couples) in book 4!

Well, if this story doesn’t get your adrenaline pumping, you might be dead. I absolutely adore the Tenley trio. I loved how this book was formatted. We got views from all three of the trio, including jumps in the past to special moments between the three curtesy of River’s view point. It was amazing. We also got Crew’s POV, and Elliott. This book was focused on saving Shay, he became the most important person in the op because reasons that I won’t give away, you gotta read the story and enjoy the process. But it all leads up to this daring op that leaves your heart racing, tears welling your eyes and so much love and adrenaline. Whoa, it also ends on a major cliffhanger, which is par for the course in this series since we are following a major plot arc. It is making this series feel fast paced and suspenseful and full of heart pumping adrenaline. I love it, Cara Dee truly wows with this series and I can’t wait to read the final book. To see the daring rescues and the conclusion and hopefully so many bad guys getting their just desserts. The Tenley trio deserve so much love and peace and a HEA. I loved the ending for this book even though it came with a cliffhanger for the major plot arc. Reese, River and Shay have long since been one of my favorite throuples. And I loved their special moments.

It's mostly plot-driven action book. I certainly prefer it to travel blog/celebrities life/hollywood like topics. However I expected to like it more.

I do love the characters, but the writing/stylistic choices weren't to my liking:

- A lot of telling, very little showing
-The 1st person narration with so many POV swaps didn't work for me

But it'd be weird to use 3d pov suddenly too. There're enough stylistic inconsistencies as it is, in the series. Small things, but they bug me:

First book: no cursive for the flashbacks (finally) vs Third book: back to cursives....

First two books: Single pov narration and thus more time to introduce the character and the necessity to put information about the second important character in-between the lines
vs.
Book three: 4+ POV and somehow not distinctive voices. Normally, I'd say, it's interesting not to have names as chapter titles and to figure out the narrator in the first sentence of that chapter and through their voice but in this case, I wouldn't be able to tell from the voice alone whose POV it is (maybe, i could tell who's Shay, because he uses "dude"...)

The flashbacks focus on Twins and Shay, and I enjoyed them, but in the book I expected to see more about the brothers in such a difficult situation. I understand there's some censorship going on and the whole book is plot-driven, but I wanted more interaction, more little things in-between the lines, shown through action - not just Reese "explaining River" and River in flashbacks telling how they feel about Shay. I could barely connect. I just read it and thought: Ok, if you say so. "We were so happy when..." I mean CD did such a good job with showing emotions through body language, situational details, etc. in other books, so I know she can do it, but sometimes it's just summarizing facts and observations for the reader.

I'm inclined to say that if the reader doesn't know the characters they'd be overwhelmed with so many names and short summerized introductions.

I know the characters and I dig the crossovers so it kind of worked for me anyway. And I wouldn't want to miss the little insights about who did what/will do what, who married who, who is in what kind of dynamics with who, and everything else (prior to 2023). The dialogues did a good job showing the dynamics and providing info. It was the narration that didn't convince me.

I hope I'll like the final book more. It'll be Joel's POV mostly and I'm looking forward to it (and yes despite my nagging before of course I'm looking forward to the multi pov epilogue 🧡).

As this is the third book in this series, we are just trust into the story from the very start. In between, there are very quick rundowns of who is who and what is going on and what has happened before.
To be honest, even having read the other two books in this series, some of the finer political details and implications are still not clear to me. However, this doesn't prevent me at all from enjoying the story. It's just my own brain not being able to understand and remember all the information about the cartel.

This is River, Reese and Shay's story. If you have read 'Breathless' (and other books in The Game Series) by Cara Dee, you might already be familiar with these characters. They are awesome and I was really looking forward to reading their story!
Almost all of the story is told from Reese's POV, with flashbacks from River's POV and a small part from Shay's POV. All first person.
We also get to read a bit more about Crew, Elliot and the rest of the gang and what they are up to. This sometimes breaks up the flow of the story a bit, but then again, Cara knows how to tell a story about multiple people, when a lot is happening at the same time.

I'm also so much more invested in these characters than the others in this series. Maybe it's because I know them best (from Cara's other books), maybe it's because River, Reese and Shay are already a triple. Their relationship is established and I can really feel the pain and despair of all of them. They have a couple of years of history behind them, as this series takes place some years later than The Game series. I love getting to know the twins better and to get a glimpse into their vanilla lifestyle as opposed to their kinky one from The Game series.
I think it's by far the most emotional book in this series (so far), which results in a higher dose of angst/suspense in this book.

It's also the book with the most action. Where the earlier two books where more about collecting intel, in this one, they finally get to act on the intel and stuff is happening. There is a lot of action and it's very high paced.
As there is still the last book in this series to come, we end on a (minor) cliffhanger again and have to wait a couple more weeks before the story will be wrapped up. I can't wait to read the fourth and last book in this series and know how it all ends!.

Be still my heart! I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book and I read it just like the title, on the double because as much as I wanted to savor it I just couldn’t put it down. Suspense action is what it’s billed as and wow that is definitely what it is. It’s billed as mostly River and Reese trying to find Shay but there are still so many characters from Cara Dee’s other books here as well, or as they are jokingly referred to at one point as “a merry band of has-beens. Has-beens they are NOT even if there are more complaints about sore knees and how much they hate leaches! I just adore this idea of Ms. Dee’s of bringing all these characters from different books of her’s together and playing off the bits of background that she has already set for them. I’m just really glad that she is bringing them out so close together or my heart couldn’t stand it. So well worth reading!

This book was all go from the very first page to the last sentence!!

Reece and River are determined to do whatever it takes to get Shay back and my word those men prove their absolute devotion in this book.

I loved the little snippets of the past that we got to see throughout the book. I also liked how we got some different POV, including Crew, so we knew exactly what was going on from everyones perspective.

This series has me in an absolute chokehold. it's just so action-packed with so many twists and turns. I can't wait for the final book in the series for everyone to hopefully be rescued and for the couples to get their HEA's.

This series continues with Reece and Rivers journey to find Shay and the others.

The brothers are doing whatever it takes to bring him/them home.

I enjoyed the flashbacks which gave me a great insight into the brothers and their relationship with Shay.

Like the previous books in the series, this one is fast paced and action packed with plenty of emotion.

I can't wait to read the final book and see how the stories get wrapped up.

Omg another huge cliffhanger!!!! Cara you are killing us. 😂😭😂😘😂😭😬😬😬 at least Tenshay is finally reunited. If we didn’t get that I was going to have a major fit. I loved that we got way more insight into all of the characters in this book, not just the main couple. Also the Tenshay flashbacks had me swooning. I’m still a little upset this is 4 novellas instead of one big book, I have been eagerly reading them as fast as I can. I guess it’s a double edge sword.

Very fast paced and lots of action. I haven't read the previous series of books in which the main characters in the mmm relationship got together which would have made that part better. The main ongoing plots of this series is starting to wrap itself up with one book to go for the final. I think it would have been preferable for me to incorporate all the books into one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Booksprout and am happy to leave a voluntary review.

can’t breathe, this series is spectacular

MY FREAKING HEART! This series! Jesus Christ! Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! The ache in River and Reese. Shay. Jesus, I feel like I can’t breathe. I will honestly die if I don’t get proper epilogues for each and every one, but specially for the Tenley’s. I need it. Onto book 4!
