Having recently tutored my eldest son (10) for an upcoming exam, spending many hours churning through unimaginative (and not aesthetically pleasing) graphs I'm overjoyed that a book like this has been released.

Centered around the adventures of a Dragon, Daphne Draws Data explores numerous graphing types in a fun and accessible way. The story itself is a pleasure to read, both my children enjoyed listening and working through each of the challenges Daphne faces with her newfound friends. In addition to the main story, there is a fantastic glossary containing descriptions (and examples) of many common chart types using examples children will be able to relate to.

Thoroughly recommended for any young people in your life!

Daphne Draws Data was a hit with my 4th grade students! The variety of graphs, in imaginative and engaging contexts, opened their eyes to the purposes and possibilities of storytelling with data. The story and the glossary inspired us to conduct several graphing activities in class. Overall, this book is a fantastic resource for educators looking to introduce young learners to the world of data visualization.

This book is beautifully illustrated and is such a fun, accessible way to get younger students to think about using data to tell stories. I attended a live reading of the book with the author and all of the students in the room were so excited to hear about Daphne's adventures. Many asked if there would be more! Whether you're a data junkie looking to share that joy with a young one in your life or looking to learn about using data for the first time, this book is a fun read for all!

Creative way to experience data and relationships. Daphne is adventurous and brave as she searches for answers. Appropriate for a nightly read-aloud or for exploring how to share data at different grade levels.

Daphne Draws Data is a standout book that introduces children to the world of numbers, graphs, and data in a way that feels like pure adventure. “Dragons don’t do data! Dragons are fierce. Everyone is afraid of them! But that’s not Daphne—she wants to make friends and draw her favorite thing: graphs!

I’ve had the privilege of watching this book come together from inception to the beautiful copy I now hold in my hands. It’s a truly wonderful book that teaches kids the power of data and graphs—something every child should be introduced to and encouraged to explore.

The story draws you in with its stunning illustrations, and the characters come to life in such a way that you can’t help but feel connected to their world. My kids have asked me to read this book more than once, and the questions keep coming even after we’re done!

The glossary graph at the end is an excellent resource for parents and teachers. I can easily see it being used in classrooms as a fun and effective introduction to graphing and data visualization. This book strikes the perfect balance between storytelling and learning, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

This book is fantastic! My niece and nephew absolutely loved it—not only did it show them an entirely new (and positive) way to look at and use numbers to figure out how to understand things in their daily lives, but the colorful illustrations that accompany these lessons were a true delight. Daphne is a wonderful (pink!) role model, guiding children in how to be brave, selfless, creative, and embrace girl power. She takes readers on a mathematical adventure to three exciting locations, where she meets unexpected new friends and shows them how to turn data into charming, mystery-solving pictures. Along the way, her confidence grows and so does her talent. Think data and graphing won’t interest your kids? Daphne’s story makes these concepts super easy to understand and really fun to practice! It will have children—and parents and educators—thinking about everything in an entirely new way. Baking a cake or eating a pizza? Use it as an opportunity to show kids how pie charts show parts of a whole. Ever wonder how many birds of each color are in your backyard? Have your kids draw a simple bar chart with imaginative sketches to indicate each type of bird! A graph glossary at the end of the book explains the different charts in easy-to-understand terms and illustrations. This is a must for parents who would like to foster early critical thinking skills and for educators who are looking to introduce the power of graphing to classrooms in an interactive way. Want to show your kids that math IS for everyone—that it isn’t something to be hated or feared? This is it! The author has also assembled an impressive website with resources and educational exercises for kids, parents, and teachers.

Great concept but could have been executed better.

I think this book could be greatly improved if there was some way (flaps, multiple pages, or clear overlays) that would allow the child to interpret the graph and come to a conclusion before the answer was given.

Illustrations were very good and the glossary at the end was a nice touch.
