Tibbs is a black Sherlock Holmes. Cross is like a poor, not as bright, copy of Tibbs. Morgan Freeman is great and makes the characters credible.

Cross is very educated in "Spider" but not super smart, just ordinary. But to be fair, I'll have to read more books and see where he solved things no one else could--like Sherlock or Tibbs. He did, right?

You are right. I do like his polymath mind that Tibbs has. At the same time, he is a lot like the rest of us. Maybe this is the way Patterson wanted him to be and not a superhero.
