Calvin Hecht "Encounters in the Jemez" is an exciting fictional tale of two teenage young men Kevin and Curt and their adventures in the New Mexico Jemez (HAY-mez) wilderness two weeks before they began their senior year of high school. Kevin and Curt's adventures and encounters run the gamut from a Basque shepherd boy to a Native American burial ground to a black bear to a mysterious cave and an apparent time warp back to New Mexico Territory in the year 1854, a pre-Civil War U.S. Army unit and an Apache War Chief. During their adventure, Kevin and Curt each have a unique encounter with God that will stir your heart.

This ebook is free for a limited time at Smashwords.com. If you download it, I'd really appreciate a review. Mega thanks!

message 26: by R.J. (new)

R.J. Gilbert I have three books published at the moment. I have gone a whole year with no reviews--no, scratch that. The only reviews I've gotten were "I haven't gotten around to reading your book yet."

I'd really like some honest reviews about my writing. I have a family and a day job and a lot of other things that demand my time, so I want to know if I'm wasting my time when I sit down to write. I don't do this to pay the bills. I do this because I like telling stories and I feel that the messages in these stories are important. The kids like my stories and keep bugging me for more, but all I get from grown-ups is "the cover doesn't appeal to me" or "I don't have time...but have you read the latest financial/ romantic/ horror bestseller? I loved it".

If you would be interested in at least trying to read one of my stories, please send me a message with your email and I can send you a kindle or epub version of them. I don't mind if you try and it doesn't appeal to you or if you just can't get over my particular interpretation of Nephilim or something, but I'd just like to know why my requests for feedback seem to have been sucked into a black hole.

Brief descriptions:
Men of Renown Men of Renown is about the heroes mentioned at the beginning of Genesis 6, but as the book description suggests, it connects that scripture with the legend of Atlantis. The rest of Genesis 6 gives away the plot as to why they are not mentioned later, so there's no excuse to not know what the story is really about if you have a Bible, but most folks need me to explain it because the idea of reading a full chapter or two from Genesis does not appeal to them. #I'm not going to give it away here.

The Sarian's Sword Tales of Vantoria, the Sarain's Sword is about reading your Bible. It starts pretty much with the idea I left off with in the last paragraph. Two guys find an old Bible that has been ignored for decades. When they finally open it they discover a map that, when interpreted correctly, leads them to a portal into another world. The rest of the fantasy adventure is full of illustrations of the perils we face when we do not read, retain, and understand the meaning of the Bible. The paperback version includes puzzles that my wife and I created because we had first envisioned this series being a Bible study course for youth groups.

The Lucky and the Strong Tales of Vantoria, the Lucky and the Strong is the sequel to the Sarian's Sword, but my writing style is different because I originally wrote the Sarain's Sword to be a kind of cliff-hanger Bible study. The Lucky and the Strong is just plain action adventure about a woman who has a talent for getting into troubles that God has to get her out of. Over the years I've had to rescue a lot of people who go through life assuming that they can live recklessly because "Jesus will fix it". The plot was actually written BEFORE paranormal romances were popular (it's about a fairy and a swordsman) but the only people who have read it so far are my family and some of the kids I know. If you want to skip the Sarian's Sword and review this one I don't mind. I'd just like to get some feedback.

PS: I don't go online every day, so if you are interested in one of my stories please give me a few days to respond. Thanks.

Amy Tippit-Young My name is Amy Tippit-Young, and I'd like to do a little self promotion here, too, about my illustrated children's book (great for all ages really) entitled, "The Last Leaf to Fall."
My children's book was originally turned down by several publishers due to its underlying Christian theme of what happens when we die.
It's a simple story of a young leaf named Analee who is deathly afraid of leaving her tree when fall comes (as a wise old owl told her would be the case.) She still has a positive outlook yet wonders if he's right. It takes the reader through her many changes and friendships thru the seasons until she watches in horror as the first few leaves are torn from the branch and she can't watch to see if he was right about them just ending up in the gutter below. Therefore she holds on tightly as all the other leaves go and is at last the only one still clinging to the tree. When she's too tired and weak she lets go and falls into a deep sleep... Don't want to ruin the ending but I'll just say she has a happy ending in her circle of life.
It's a great read for all ages to allow them to see that life here is fleeting, but the afterlife/heaven is not. It also helps them understand and reduce the fear of having to leave this earth one day as well as giving them hope that they'll be reunited with those loved ones who've passed... In our own time.
I was inspired by my two grandmothers who were each the last "leaf" on their family tree to go.

Luckily for me I found a Christian-based publisher that picked it up and it's available on Amazon and other online bookstores, although some,(unlike Amazon) may have to special order it for you as it was released spring of 2009.

God bless you all!

Laura Hi everyone! I just released my latest book, He Who Has an Ear, Who the Seven Churches of Revelation are Today. This book helps Christians see the consequences of compromise in the church and what needs to change before Christ’s return.

Darin Godby from Reader's Favorite Reviews says,

“This is a must-read if you are concerned about becoming too complacent within your Christian faith. This book exposes various teachings prevalent today, causing the reader to look deep within themselves and examine their own heart.

How similar are the churches of today to the church over 2000 years ago? I think you'll be shocked with the answer.

Jason McGlynn New book—Divine Towels: Spurring a spiritual forest fire in people’s souls
Divine Towels will not only give people a fresh perspective on life and remind them of what their priorities in life should be, but it will challenge them to have more faith and rekindle the flame of passion and zest for life that was so visible in the Acts of the Apostles. The book stokes the embers of passion in people’s souls by reinforcing the idea that the only way to successfully bulldoze the obstacles of their lives is to trust Christ completely. When people finish reading Divine Towels, they will walk away with a renewed sense of purpose and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to devote their lives to spreading love, bearing fruit, and saving souls.

Christine Tate The No-Homework Women's Bible Study: Group Hug by Christine Tate
Put the fun back in small group Bible study! Ideal for newly formed Women's Bible studies or existing groups, this light, fun, 8 week Bible Study encourages group discussion of biblical perspectives on everyday topics. Each weekly lesson begins with an "Ice Breaker" section to get the conversation flowing, then moves on to a "Promise from God" section to provide group focus. This is then followed by a "Scripture References" section to guide the conversation through God's word. Next, a "Commentary" section provides food-for-thought to stimulate the discussion. The next section, "Discussion Questions", leads the group into deeper analysis and self-examination. Then, the "Opt. Weekly Challenges" section provides suggestions for ways to translate thoughts into action during the upcoming week. Finally, there is a "Closing Prayer" section to wrap up the session. Unique in its approach, this Bible study focuses on forming strong group bonds and providing an opportunity for women to really get to know and support each other as sisters in Christ. Be sure to watch for Group Hug II to be released in early 2014 as part of this 6 part series! Available in Paperback, Nook, iPad and Kindle formats.
