I guess...it's just that it seems like the women always have some kind of dark past where they've been brutalized

That is not including people who were abused in a non sexual way. I'm really grateful to Patricia Briggs for addressing some of the issues faced by survivors.
In the werewolf world of way too many males and them being trapped in another era (and extra violence simmering under the surface), it would make sense that the numbers would go up
