Hi Roz, I agree about Kind's endings as far as a lot of the earlier novels, and he's also acknowledged that his endings weren't always a strong point. However, his son, novelist Joe Hill, began helping him with them and they've much improved with his latest books (from about Under the Dome on, I believe. One, in particularly, 11/22/63, is truly GREAT (and my all time favorite modern novel) with a terrific ending, and (again) one his son helped him with. Good luck!
