Aye, as painful as it sounds. It is the truth. Learning the hard way. Thanks for the reminder John. :)
I try to do that, but then find that the writing sucks. How do you make it not suck when you're just not in the flow?
Write another scene, write out of order and if all else fails, write something useless. When I get that I try some fan fiction or writing exercise like I would drill myself. Write a meaningful short story with no names. I could no in any way describe the characters in any way including their names. Could I convey meaning without those obvious tools? You'll find once your mind starts working on something else that the log jam in your mind will release itself. Most of the time it is just clutching the bat too tight and letting yourself relax.
