Women Out Loud

Hi All,
This is where you can create a topic for the giveaway you're doing.
Please don't advertise Giveaways anywhere else in this group.
Cheers,

I'm just wondering how many self-published writers out there are getting their work professionally edited?
If so, how did you find an editor? How expensive were they?
Thank you for your honest answers. I think it will help other newer writers out there!

Great Amy! I think this will be really helpful for our group!

Please post a blurb about your wonderful children's books here.

I can see where you guys are coming from. The good news is that we love what we do and we first and foremost must write for ourselves.

There is so much talk these days about Fanfiction. People either love it or hate it. I notice that the younger audience can't get enough of reading a writing it. I run a Facebook page for 13-20-year-old girls, and it's their favorite genre. However, I noticed that the more adult crowed seem to hate it. Most people over the age of thirty seem to think it is a genre based on ripping off other authors. What are your thoughts?

As an author, what are some of your favorite books on writing? What did you find so helpful about them?

I am including a link to this article because I would love to know what you think. Do you have any tips?

I did not make this category sooner because I sort of thought we were all looking for reviews, but if you feel like you really need to plead your case, or you just came out with something new, post here.
Tell people a little bit about your book and why you would like a review. Also include how you will get your story to a potential reviewers.

Ok, I know a lot of people here have a lot to say about the fact that it is fan fiction. There seems to be some confusion about whether she admits that it's fan fiction or not. Here is a link to her interview on The View where she clearly says it's fan fiction.

I read an article that said Myers did not mind E.L James writing a fanfiction piece from Twilight. She also said the success did not bother her. We shall see what her lawyers think though. Whether you like fanfiction or not, it is here to stay. I run a Facebook page and have over 4,000 teens on it. Most of them say the write fanfiction. They are going to be the next generation of writers, so we had better get used to it. I personally love fanfiction and don't see any problem with it. Let's face it, people have been emulating other artists for hundreds if not thousands of years, this is just the first wave of people admitting it. I think as long as you say it is fanfiction, then you're ok.
Lauryn wrote: "After reading your comments in the link you listed above I understand why you are so outraged by Ms. James. It appears that this is not just converted fanfiction but possibly a rewriting of Twiligh..."You make some great points!

Very interesting stuff Sandra. Thank you for your thoughts!

I have been aproached to turn my short story
The Seamstresses into a one act play. Has anyone else done anything like this before? I am looking for some advice. For example should I hire an playwright to adapt it or try to do it myself?

This is great Katie, thank you for putting it up here.

I am always curious to know if readers buy books that look interesting at the time, or if they have certain subject matters they look for. What do you do?

Abigail Larson stood at the oversized window in the library of her London manor. It was dusk, a time of day that used to be her favorite—of course, that was before the light from America lit up the sky throughout the night. As she pressed her hand against the glass between her and the white light in the sky, a car appeared by the iron gates at the end of the long driveway. It was an old American Ford from the 2020’s. Abigail smiled to herself; she hadn’t seen one of those since they came out over forty years ago.

My husband runs a Media Company that writes sub-culture blogs. They are very successful, and I think part of that is because they discuss topics that mainstream media either doesn't know about or doesn't care about. He always tells me that he loves the fact that he doesn't have a "Gatekeeper."
I started to think about indi writing in the same way. Look at something like 50 Shades of Grey. Do you really think Random House would have picked up those books if the author did not do all the leg work first? Do you think indi books are, and can be about broader subjects then a traditionally published book?

When a new subject matter comes up in mainstream writing, I love to get reader's opinions. What do you think of this trilogy about Bondage and SandM? Did you read the trilogy, and it left you wanting more? Does the subject matter make you uncomfortable? Is it inappropriate that the books are on every book stores front window display? Basically give me all your thoughts.
I have to admit I have read them. I heard they were amazing from people on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I read them back in the fall of last year. I had no idea what they were about. I just thought it was some self-published romance trilogy. After finding out what it was about I was shocked that there was no disclaimer about the book in the description.
