So maybe not the right choice for pandemic times. My mind did wander because when it was over I felt like nothing happened. But I LOVED the act of reading it. The audiobook was excellent so well produced and acted. It was the best kind of urban fiction,

I am an N.K. Jemisin fan after devouring the Broken Earth series. This series is...I don鈥檛 know? The obvious names for borough avatars seems a little hacky, and so does the personification of the city itself. And all that bugged me. By the end, though, I was ready to sign up for the next in this series.

So, tbh I struggled with the world building at the beginning of this one. This is likely just because I do not read enough sci-fi to have made the jump easily and I don鈥檛 really know much about NYC. That being said, once I figured it out, I enjoyed this book! The characters felt like well-rounded people, with flaws and strengths, and the plot left you hanging just enough to want to pick up book two, but resolved enough to not if you didn鈥檛 want another book in this world.
