I finished this book only to see if I could understand what was going on but really all I could think about was the movie AI. I didn't feel anything for the characters or really understand the world they were in. It annoyed me to feel that the story of the book lay elsewhere.

This has a super interesting premise and attempts to answer some good questions - what does it mean to be human? What is the role of AI? But it leaves so many details out in the world building and makes so many jumps in time and setting without transitions that it is difficult to enjoy.
