Destroy Me (Shatter Me, #1.5) in The Aaron Army

Okay, I'm just going to come right out and say it: I'm officially in love with Warner. I always did love his character in Shatter Me. For a villain, I thought he was so interesting and compelling, but reading Destroy Me from his point of view just was a total game changer. Everything I originally thought about Warner was completely wrong. I thought he was power hungry, but he really isn't. He's always had power and is used to it, but is resentful of it because it's artificial. No one around him Okay, I'm just going to come right out and say it: I'm officially in love with Warner. I always did love his character in Shatter Me. For a villain, I thought he was so interesting and compelling, but reading Destroy Me from his point of view just was a total game changer. Everything I originally thought about Warner was completely wrong. I thought he was power hungry, but he really isn't. He's always had power and is used to it, but is resentful of it because it's artificial. No one around him really cares for him, they all wish he'd died, they fear him but don't respect him. I also thought he was bloodthirsty but he really isn't that either, he lives by his own code of honor which you really didn't get in Shatter Me. What I think is the most surprising about Warner is how self-loathing and broken he is. I was also under the impression that Warner was just evil, but he truly isn't that either. He is exactly what his terribly cruel father made him to be and he hates it, it makes him feel empty and unworthy of living. Warner feels so much loneliness and isolation and it just broke my heart to read how much reading Juliette's journal kept him going, how much he identified with her words and it really shows just how much they really are the same, both abused by parents who were supposed to love them but ultimately took pleasure in making them suffer. In Shatter Me, you don't really get this, but I honestly think that Warner cares and actually loves Juliette. He never wanted to hurt her, it's just that he's so unfamiliar with feeling love for someone else, never experiencing it first-hand he went about everything the wrong way, which he acknowledges all through the book. I can't express how much I wish this was a full sized book and was actually pretty distraught when it ended because I wanted more Warner, I wanted to continue getting to know him and seeing things from his viewpoint. He's such a complex and interesting character, I can't wait to see what happens with him in Unravel Me and I only hope that he can communicate these thoughts and feelings to Juliette and she can give him a chance(which he deserves, imo) because they have the potential to be an epic couple. ...more

OH MY SWEET GOD, WASN'T THIS BOOK JUST SO DAMN EMOTIONAL AND BEAUTIFUL AND HOT!

JUST FINSHIED IT! I NEED TO COLLECT MY THOUGHTS MORE CLEARLY , BUT ONE THING'S FOR SURE AND THAT IS , WARNER, I AM ALL YOURS BABE.

So so so freaking amazing. I fell in love with Warner in Shatter Me and this book just sealed the deal. I loved that we got to go inside Warner's head, see whats going on inside that complicated mind on his. This book made me understand him so much more, really added layers to his character. I always knew there was more to him, that this whole 'bad guy' thing was just a facade, and I was right :)

This short e-novella is written from Warner's, the villain we love to hate in Shatter Me, point of view. We finally get a good look into his slightly disturbed, yet inexplicably adorable mind, and the extent of his obsession with Juliette as told in his own words. Since this is a very short novella, this review itself will be short as well.

I feel that this short story was written to give readers a piece of Warner; to understand him better and to make peace with why he is the way he is and why he acts like that.

I liked Warner in the first book. I don't know why exactly, maybe his arrogance and charm convinced me he wasn't such a bad guy. And in this novella we actually get to see behind his closed doors.

Another brilliant novel of Tahereh Mafi. I loved it <3 , the novella is written in Warners point of view and that shows much more about his character. Warner is a real loving cutie. Butit is real sad he has to put up a strong front. Wow!! Fantastic novella! Totally changed my mind about Warner! I thought he was fascinating in SHATTER ME, but he seemed too sadistic and cruel to be a love interest I could accept--I was actually kind of mad that he seemed too far gone and evil for me to feel comfortable rooting for him.
